FM Radio Springboard possibly coming soon! - UPDATE

-UPDATE-

Somebody from the company responded to my email reguarding when it would be released in the us. They said "Most likely late September." so I guess we can wait until then for another most likely useless springboard.

Hi,

I came upon a website for a company who makes/resells some crap like mp3 players and modems for the m100, as well as some other palm accrsories. They have a limited Visor section that has the my-vox (cant tell but it looks like the same logo and design of the landware go-vox) recorder as well as something called "my-raydio" which is an fm radio springboard. Here are the specs on it:Bass control

-24 preset stations
-Auto scan setup for all the available stations
-Frequency range 87.50 ~ 108.00 MHz
-User programmable threshold for auto scan 5 uV; 10 uV; 30 uV & 150 uV
-Powered by Visor's batteries Auto off timer; allows user to play radio while Visor is off
-Auto Power Off when Visor's batteries are low
-User programmable step size: 12.5 KHz; 25 KHz; 50 KHz & 100 KHz
-Current consumption: Operation = 60 ~ 70 mA; Standby < 100 u

I'm not sure if they make it, or somebody else. It says "coming soon" in red below it - but shows a picture and somewhat of a screenshot of it. I think (the website anyway) is from Singapore, that was the prefix on the end of their email anyway.

Maybe this will be the cheap fm radio people have been waiting for.

I hope that's not a real picture of it. It looks big for a module, especially since you can get really small FM radios for a few dollars.

Thats the pic right off their website.

Posted by volcanopele on 08-02-2001 11:22 PM:

it looks like its the same size as a regular springboard module.

Actually, that one was by a company called Cue or OnCue or similar. It was to be much more than a radio--you could pay and use it as a pager, get weather reports and road conditions, etc. It's in the HS Springboard booklet that comes with a Visor. It seems to be put off all the time though.

Visorcentral spoke about it last July 28th while at PC Expo.

Yes, Hoser, that's the link I guess I should have put in my post as a simple search brought it up. The Cue radio is mentioned there also. Their web site says it can be purchased in Q2 2001. Still.

Darnit!!! I knew I should have patented my idea This is like the third creation of mine that was taken from my brain by the aliens that run all the companies!!! First Johnny Bravo, then the Oldsmobile Alero, now my FM radio springboard module.

Oh well, dumb luck I guess. (and no I don't believe in aliens)

p.s. just so people know, don't take this post too seriously

Your idea came a year after these radios were announced. As we still haven't seen them, give it a go. Who knows, you could be the first to market! You might want to post a poll to see how many want it.

Just checked the Cue web site. Seems they wont be building the CUEradio springboard but are going with a stand alone unit. My-Raydio web site is down too. Whats so hard about building a radio springboard?

Unhappy

It's hard because most Springboard/Visor manufacturers already know that Handspring is "concentrating" with the Treo communicators... and the Visor line and Springboards will be a thing of the past..

Maybe, but these radios had been announced 2 and 1.5 years ago.

speak of the devil.. I e-mailed the original makers of the my-radio module just like two weeks ago. I received not one reply. *sigh* I would think from what I hear that it is dead. again *sigh*

Wink

My suggestion:

Someone who's really good in electronics should go to radio-shack, and get together some parts, and make a FM-module!

I want a mp3 module but I'm not willing to pay such a high price for it, yet.

I would buy a FM module... if there ever was one, and if it's priced reasonably as well.

It would be even better if it has a few megs of space to store files in it

Cheers,
Andre
