I've had my Visor for a little more than 24 hours. One aspect of it that I find unnerving is the feeling of writing on it. I'm using the stock plastic stylus, and no other coverings on the screen (WriteRight or anything of the sort). When I write, it is not a smooth feeling; there is a feeling of irregular friction not unlike what I would expect to feel if the stylus were scratching the hell out of the screen. The screen is definitely not being visibly damaged, however.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be related to the "mushiness" of the screen (I have one of the mushier ones)? Will WriteRights or good ol' Scotch #811 tape help at all?

I experienced the same feeling when I got my Visor. I also didn't think I was scratching my screen, but one day, I got the light to hit it just right and I could see the scratches in the graffiti area.

Since then, I put on a WriteRight. You will not be able to feel the grittiness whatsoever. Not only that, but you can rest assured knowing that it is physically impossible for you to scratch the screen with one of these things installed, no matter how vigorously you write. I found this confidence actually makes me write faster and more accurately.

This warm, fuzzy feeling doesn't come without a price. There is definitely reduced clarity with a WriteRight installed and the "tactile" feel when writing may not agree with everyone. I found that I got used to in a couple of days and now I don't even notice it.

I guess the only way for you to know is to get some and try them out. You know that until you do, every time you write and feel that gritty sensation, you'll wonder if you're damaging the very device you waited so patiently to get.

P.S. Also keep your screen free from any debris as this is as likely to scratch your screen as the stylus.

My VDx felt gritty too when I first got it but I cleaned the screen with a soft cloth and it cured it. I think in my case the cause was a layer of dust. I have also "honed" my styli on the back of my leather belt to remove any burs that might be there. I also use 3/4" scotch tape on the Grafitti area.

So what size writerights work with the visor? How accurate is the sizing.

I'm using the Palm III version. The length is perfect, with about a 1/16 inch gap on either side. The WriteRight logo is annoying, however, especially since I put the thing on upside down (the logo is now at the top).

i still think the best (and cheapest) alternative is a 70mm x 80mm piece of overhead transparency. the left side slides under the plastic case. The image quality is a little less if you're using Viewer III or other graphics. However, for everyday datebooks, addresses, etc. it's fine and it allows you to write with the same weight you do on paper. One transparency will last quite some time and you can make 8 of them out of one overhead transparency.

My screen is scratch free!

WinCE WriteRights work perfectly.

Concept kitchen just came out with support for the visor. I plan to review them and a new product called clean screens soon.
