Question

My work box runs WinNT and my home box runs Win98. There is a ton of stuff (freeware, hacks, etc.) that I would like to download at home that I can't download at work. I also must sync with MS Outlook at work and don't have it at home. If I just need to buy Outlook, that would be okay... Please help!

Yes, you can HotSync one handheld to 2 PCs.

I don't use NT, but I do use W95/serial sync to Outlook 98 using PocketMirror at work, and W98/USB to sync to Palm Desktop at home. No problems. Install Palm Desktop at home, and create a new username the same as already exists on the handheld. If you just want to install stuff from home, then set all the other conduits to Do Nothing.

Some cautions though:
- Palm's mail program only has one inbox, so you will need to sync work or home, not both, unless you get a more sophisticated Palm Mail program like MultiMail.

- HotSync is slower if you sync between 2 PCs, since it has to scan all records, not just changed ones. Only slightly slower for me, but could be an issue if you have a lot of data.

- Some users have reported duplicates, but I have not experienced that.

What about two computers that are mirrored (i.e. I don't use them at the same time, I copy my folders to one or the other depending on which one I am going to use).

Which folders should I replicate? I guess the user id folder in the Palm directory would be one of them. I also use Documents to Go and Avant Go. Should I replicate those folders as well?

Thanks.

elmorg,
I sync with two and it works just fine. If you only want to sync at home to load programs, that shouldn't be an issue. You can set the hotsync to not even try to sync the calendar, to do, etc. I also believe it would work to sync with Outlook at work and Palm Desktop at home.

Actually I want to do a full sync with both just that I use only one of the computers at a time and when I am going to use the other one I copy all the data folders so it looks very much like one computer to the Visor.

It is that I would like to know which folders to replicate in order to do that. My data is taken care of and I guess that I need to copy the user id folder in the palm folder but is there anything else?

Thanks.
