I use my Prism with my Mac, and was pissed to see that they (for no good reason at all) made everything so that mac users could not install their software. LAME. I had to install palm desktop on my seldom-used pc, just so i could get at the .prc from their damned installer

E-mail's away. Am I correct in assuming that the "snap-shot" service doesn't work with Mac either? How would one get the html's onto browse-it if it doesn't?

I'm a bit puzzled by the enthusiasm. BrowseIt is nice, and it's images are stunning, but I find it rather slower than Blazer. Blazer downloads text before images, and it renders the pages as it goes, so you can usually get to the pertinent information before the entire page downloads. BrowseIt however won't display anything at all until the entire page, images and all, downloads, which can be a very long wait. It also seem to take it a bit longer to connect to the server. So, unless I really want to look at pretty pictures, and am willing to wait for them, I'll stick to Blazer. Am I missing something? I'll keep it for a while and play with it some more.

Thumbs up

Truth is, speed isn't as important to me as 16-bit colour support. I just want a browser that can display images just like I see it on the PC, which Browse-it does.

Also, while Blazer is fast, it doesn't support SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption, which Browse-it does. With Browse-it, I have succesfully accessed my Hotmail account as well as purchased stuff from Amazon.

As far as speed goes, I thought Browse-it was pretty reasonable -- definitely faster than browsing with AvantGo but of course, not as fast as Blazer.

I used to think Blazer was fastest... But I am beginning to think Browse-it is actually quicker overall, especially on graphic intense pages.. Just going by the activity on my Minstrel S modem.. I haven't officially timed it, but things like this discussion area seems to load up a lot quicker on Browse-it than Blazer.. Blazer seems to suffer from frequent time-outs.. Yes, Blazer loads the text faster, which does let you more quickly navigate to a specific page, but if you just let them both load a completed webpage graphics and all, Browse-it does indeed seem faster.

Yes, I've noticed that too - for complete loading of both text and graphics, I get the feeling that Browse-it is faster.

The only problem is that Browse-it doesn't reformat the text and graphics into the smaller Palm screen as well as AvantGo does -- I still sometimes have to scroll a little to the right and left.

I'm not sure what you are asking.
You still need to signup on their website to get an account. Then enter that info into BrowseIt.
What is snapshot?

Posted by Tan Kit Hoong on 02-26-2001 11:20 AM:

Snapshot is what the people at PumaTech call the offline browsing feature in Browse-it. It serves the exact same function as AvantGo and can even sync the very same channels. What dick-richardson is talking about is the PC client that you have to install, just like AvantGo's MobileLink on the PC.

Oh, in that case, I would say no.

It's this formatting issue that forces me to keep Blazer, Browse-it and Palmscape on my Prism.. Some web sites look better under different browsers.

And you would be right. I've tried to have avantgo desktop app connect, but to no avail. I'm pretty sure the problem is that it's trying to save the browse-it pages in AvantGo on the visor. Well, it's off to VPC.

Well, I've had a couple of days to work with Browse-It and Blaser. I'm posting from a dial-in with my ThinModem. It's been a royal pain to get set up to do a post on Browse-It -- I've had a lot of problems with the system accepting a log-in, and now, I'm also experiencing the same problem that I have with Documents to Go -- very slow typing.
Browser to brower, even with the typing issues and message format problems, Browse-it does seem to bee faster, and more importantly, easier to use. Why? The main reason that ai find is that I don't have to continually guess on the moving download k. clock on the blazer,
but, am really really pleased with the %%% of loaded document / page bar at the bottom of Browse-It. Of course, with this length of message, typing with my Stowaway is so slow I cannot handle it.

Other comments???

Typing with Browse-it?

David,

How do you manage to type while using Browse-it? What is your PDA configuration?

I had resigned myself to browsing or typing - not both. Transition between these
states is arduous and uncertain. What is your secret?

If you have a StowAway keyboard, make sure you have the latest driver from Targus. The latest driver enabled the ability to type with a modem in use at the same time. Works great for me!

Hi,
Maybe I made this more complicated than it seems. I've got a Prism and a stowaway keyboard. I plug the Prism into the stowaway, turn the Prism on, plug in my Thinmodem and dial-in. Then, if I'm inputting a url or sending an e-mail or a message I use the keyboard.

I guess a workaround would be to type a message in the memo pad, copy and then paste into the post...
