Claiming Treocentral Posting World Record (Altitude)

I guess nobody has ever posted from a higher altitude: 3500 meter above sea level, 11483 feet, from the restaurant beneath Allalin, above Saas-Fee, Switzerland. Written on a semi-antique Treo 180.

. BTW, I had very good connection at close to 12800 feet (3900 meter), but there I was in the shade (not on the sunny terrace any more), and my battery froze faster than I could write.

My Treo had a severe cold shock, only after it was connected to the charger for a few minutes and a soft reset it would start charging again... so maybe you bring a heater, or try it in summer. And don't forget: unless you use a Treo 180, you will have to take off your gloves to type, which can be a real pain up there in winter. Good luck

1) I'm the boss here, how dare you contradict me

2) this is when I was still living in the Netherlands.. allmost half of the country is below sea level... about 1-6 meter I believe..

Sorry guys, but

I could post here from the top of Breckenridge, Keystone in Colorado at about 12000 feet. Full strength on the signals up there, I guess they want to keep the rich skiiers happy

OK, I'll go back to 12800 feet and try to post from there again (and try to keep the battery alive long enough)... unfortunately, I will have to wait until next year because I am already back in the lowland... until then, I guess the honor is all yours - unless of course someone can post above 12000 feet.

I doubt the antenna microwaves penetrate the water at all - but there should be watertight transparent bags with which you can try. I am pretty sure the connection is lost after a few inches into the water.

I haven't tried it, but one assumes that the Treo would work on an airplane. That would beat any mountain, even K2. Or is it U2?

It would work up to certain altitude (antenna's are pointed downwards.
But you are not allowed to use anything with a antenna in most commercial flights anyway..
