-- What PDA to buy? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1342)
I have been doing alot of research on all the most "popular" pda's available. I like the visor deluxe capabilities and the springboard expansion slot. I relize that you can by a backup springboard, additional memory, etc.. but the TRGpro uses a compactflash card instead and I also like that option. The flash cards can give you a backup capability as well as the ability to load different user set ups. Also, you can buy a flash card with alot more memory for a cheaper price than the springboard modules. I have also viewed comments concerning problems with the conctruction of the VD (ie, easily scratched screen, case seperating/cracking). Benchmark test also show the TRGpro to be slightly faster than the VD, although not by much. What ever pda I purchase will be my first, looking for some comments concerning these issues from those of you who use them.

Eodman -- Food for thought. My experience with Handspring gets more interesting by the day. Here's the contents of the latest note send to the VDx people, along with the defective product.
"This has been an interesting experience. To replace a defective VDx screen, customer support sent me a replacement - ABEEB42900760.
When it arrived, I noticed the back case was cracked at the Springboard module, where the screws attach to the body.
I called customer service back, and they sent me a third replacement - ABEEB05000456.
This third Visor had a cracked case in the front where the USB cradle is attached!
Why do you send refurbished Visors? There's no way these are new units. If they are, you need to have a long talk with your quality control people.
However, I was not about to call customer service and asked for a fourth Visor. So, I simply took apart the Visors and made one new unit out of two damaged units.
You are getting the hybrid back. Since the front is connected only by the ribbon to the screen, I saw no reason not to give it a try.
Please, I really do like your product. But this is poor workmanship and horrible technical support. Your customer service is outstanding and very friendly. But they're not the people shipping these things to customers."
This illustrates the point I've continued to make at this discussion board: The Visor's case is made from a cheap resin plastic that has a low stress tolerance, and is therefore prone to cracking!
If your going to purchase a Visor, then defineately go with a Graphite. It's the only unit that doesn't exhibit the *snap'crackle'pop* condition. Handspring needs to divert more attention to this problem. This is a serious issue, I've gone through three colored Visor's in the past that had the same problem.

I'm on my second Visor. It has a bit of a creak. I chalk it up to "you get what you pay for." Of the Palm line, the VDX gave me the most bang for the buck with a few drawbacks in the quality of the materials. I can live with that.
If you are looking for ruggidness, get a GOOD case. None of the PDAs are really meant to be dropped or abused.
You seem to be dwelling on backup options and expandability. First, ask yourself IF you have any intention of expanding the device. I bought a visor NOT because of the springboard, but just because of the price. The springboard is cool, but I have yet to find anything I realy need. The BIG killer add-ons (IE Bluetooth) will most likely be produced for all sorts of PDA's so I'm not too worried about that.
As for speed, I haven't really found an APP that sucks resources to the point where a better processor would make much of a difference.
Just all my opinion, mind you...
Duplicate topic.
