Step Keeper Pedometer

Aside from being probably $20 too expensive like the review noted, this module looks pretty neat. I'm moving to a house that's only 1 mile from my work so I'm planning on walking most days, this could be very valuable to me at that point. Hopefully the price will go down a bit though.

Nobody has reviewed it yet but does anybody have this module or thinking about buying it?

I've had one for about 2 weeks now and it works quite well, of course I'm no expert on pedometers tho. The little animation is cute, the graphs are interesting to look at (as interesting as simple graphs can be, that is), and the Visor displays all the needed info, such as miles per day walked and number of steps per day. You can export data to the memopad, which will allow you to see the steps and calories burned during the day range you export out (when the module is out of the Visor). This is needed because the Stepkeeper doesn't load the Stepkeeper viewer program into Visor RAM, probably for spacesaving reasons (my Prism says the Stepkeeper program is 108K in the module's flash ROM, I guess that would be a lot of Prism RAM to dedicate to a pedometer program). Overall, it seems like a nicely designed pedometer. Of course, the price would be better if it were slightly lower, but I could say that about almost all the modules I've bought .

I've got it, but I'm still evaluating it.

For those that have it I have a question. How well does it perform at recording your steps? I wonder if it records movements while moving around in a chair. Since I tend to swivel around in the chair while working would these be recorded as steps? I would be interested in getting one of these to track my normal walking as well as when I workout but would like some more input before buying one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I cannot speak about the Step Keeper specifically, but pedometers in general will not record actions such as movement in a chair, nor cycling. The pendulum in the unit requires a more discrete action than would be produced by that type of movement. That is why it must be worn on the hip. The pendulum in the device swings with the natural pendular motion of the pelvis. Each swing of the pendulum registers as a step.

You mentioned that it would not register when cycling, what about when using a stairclimber? That is one of my main workout components and would like to record those steps as well.

Stair climbing produces more pelvic motion than walking, so I would expect your stair climber steps to be registered.

If someone bought this thing for me the only time id use it is to record the amount of steps it takes to walk to the place it was bought so i could return it.

Like the visorcentral reveiw said, there are plenty of things like this that are cheaper and probably lighter than this added to my prism. Plus I dont think id want to be touching my visor with sweaty hands. Now what would be cool is if this thing worked on its own with a tiny lcd screen and then after you are done you plug it in and download the stats to save in your visor. But that would probably up the price and right now it looks to be expensive as it is.
