-- TechTV's Fresh Gear review of the Prism! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9371)

TechTV has a review of the Visor Prism. I don't want to make any accusations here, but TechTV, or at least this reviewer (Hahn Choi) must read this discussion board, because someone there stole my analogy. Remember way back when, I described the experience of looking at the display on the Palm IIIc as "like looking through a screen door on a summers day". Well, guess what? That's what TechTV said about the Prism. Hmm, interesting...VERY interesting.

Any way, here it is:

I may be out of place here, I don't own a Prism. BUt I agree with the review. It's nice to have color, but I feel it's too much money for what you get. IMO. If it were given to me as a gift, I would be very happy with it. I elect to spend my money on SB modules instead, and wait for something better.

Okay...Someone please give me there opinion then of a side by side comparison of the Prism and IIIc screens. I have not even looked at a IIIC screen yet let alone a Prism. Is the IIIc really brighter and less pixilated? Is the prism display THAT bad really? Not that I would get a IIIc as I love the SB slot etc
I really have not had a chance to see them for myself so want to know if it is as bad as the reviewer said.

Well. as an avid watcher of TechTV, I tend to trust Jim Louderback's opinions over their other reviewers, and if you check the little blurb in his "Jim's PDA Picks" (which has apparently been updated since the April, 2000 date)article, you'll notice that he seems to prefer the Prism over the IIIc.

The link is here:

http://www.techtv.com/freshgear/jim...2504948,00.html

Or, the quote direct from the article:

On the color side, Handspring's new Color Visor, the Prism, wins hands down. The screen is bright and clear, and supports many more colors than Palm's IIIc. At $450, it's quite expensive, though. Palm, of course, knows that, and the company's color unit has recently dropped in price.

While it's not a true review, it shows that the original review's opinion isn't held by everyone over there.

Angry

I think Hahn Choi's review is really shallow. I read in The Gadgeteer Prism review that Palm IIIc and Prism use EXACTLY THE SAME SCREEN. Then, how could Prism's screen be worse? To me it seems that Mr. Choi played with Prism for 15 minutes and wrote a real quick & sloppy review.

BTW The Gadgeteer review wasn't that favorable to Prism, either. I was really disappointed that she compared Prism only with the functions IIIc has, and there was almost no mention to Springboard modules. I guess it's not very important to her since her main machine is IIIc and does not use Springboard. I wish the other reviewer who uses Visor wrote it, too. Also Unfortunately The Gadgeteer got a unit with digitizer problem. But I thought IIIc had a few problem when it came out(digitizer, cracking of case to name a couple), too.
