-- A really sad story (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2912)
I trust there aren't too many sad stories like this one - but after returning my original blue VDX because of a cracked case, I have had - in two months - 5 Graphite replacements! Yes, that's right, five of them, and everyone has proven to be defective in one way or another. Battery abusers, scratched screen, defective contrast control, etc. Just be forewarned that those replacements you get when you return them are very likely to be 'refurbished' and obviously that means there may be further problems. I posted this just to provide an alert. I have now returned everything thing I had ordered and will be receiving a refund. Will be a long time before doing business with Handspring again. Too bad, because the first VDX I had worked beautifully - just that the case started to chip and break.
That is a really sad story, and I'm sorry to hear it. I hope it's not too long before you give Handspring another chance.
As for the "warning", I think it's well taken for Visors, and for life in general. Some things aren't perfect, but in our quest to make them so, we end up sorry we didn't just live with the original problem. (This isn't directed at you specifically or your list of valid complaints).
My graphite Visor has the "creaky/squeaky case" problem, but other than that, it works perfectly. I could probably call Handspring, complain, and get a different one. I'd rather just live with it.

Hmmmmmmmm......
i agree...
i've had my visor since november and it creaks (alittle? i can't compare it with anything so i'm not sure what 'alot' is), there are a couple of 'nice' scratches on my screen, the little lip thingy that holds the cover recently started cracking (but still holds the cover on with no problems). BUT, i've had to soft reset twice? since i got it and that was because of an app i eventually deleted (after the second soft reset!) and i've only hard reset once! and that was my fault...low batteries and a sync just doesn't work.
My visor has sync'd without a hitch from day one with 2 different computers, and battery usage seems ok enough that i'm not concerned.
I wouldn't give back my visor even if it chips or partially cracks right now. i know i'll be buying (upgrading) in at least a year (maybe sooner!) and things work perfectly now!
My "down" button is starting to fail. I am going to wait until I really, really have to to get a replacement! Other than that, I never, never had any problems. My coworker also got one on the same day as me (Dec 31st, 1999) and neither of us has ever had a problem.
sorry to hear that...
Well, I presently have my fourth unit (all graphite), the first exchanged due to syncing problems, the second b/c it gobbled up batteries like crazy and the third's screen assembly was broken.
My present unit creaks much more than my old ones - although I do not know whether it creaks *much* or just *a little*... but apart from that, it works flawlessly - fingers crossed! As long as I have just the creaking problem, I can live with that.
I do not want to return an otherwise perfectly functional unit to receive a refurbished one that possibly has some more serious "flaws".
Hey, I sometimes creak, too (especially when I have been sitting in front of my PC for too long)
good luck,
mc9
I am on my third replacement which they would not guarantee as new even after I insisted I would return the whole mess.
I have recieved two replacement battery abusers. I suspect this one as well and have installed runtime to watch it. The first IVD i received was running over four weeks on one set. This new visor came to me last wednesday and already demanded a new set of batteries with runtime of less than an hour.
I have received a promise of full reimbursement if this unit doesnt work either. Of course, even if they reimburse my unit, two cases, and pen pack that wont reimburse my lost time, lost data, or panache pen.
It boggles my mind that they would let two users return units with bad stories to tell rather than send out new units to us (myself and the thread originator).
JEFF, ARE YOU LISTENING?
This has got me worried a bit.. after a couple of hours of frenzied game playing, you don't suspect my buttons might die on me?
