Message for PiDeveloper about PiBackup?

I had lost my Visor, Memplug and a 32 MB CF card. See Lost it all? Everything was returned minus the CF card. And I'm afraid its possible to restore the info I backed up on the CF card to another PDA. And I was wondering if there is a way of locking a CF card or at least Password protecting the PIbackup program, preventing any info on the CF card from being backed up to any other device unless a password is entered.

I have an idea. I think Pi should implement a program that locks the SM/CF card after it is released from the MemPlug. So it can only be accessed using a password.

SM, CF, and MMC don't have provisions for locking the cards, so aside from encryption, software can only do so much. SD or special Memory Sticks(purple ones, I think) might be helpful in this regard, but I'm pretty sure they only use copy protection, rather than the read protection that you would need.

What's the difference between read protection and copy protection?
If you can read something, you can copy it, right?

That's somewhat true. I would think that copy protection could be easily circumvented. One example of read vs. copy protection are some Palm programs. While they reside on your Palm, they are completely usable, but if you try to beam a copy to a friend, the PalmOS won't let you. Of course, you could always use a 3rd-party app to clear the copy protect bit. Another example are the ATRAC files that the CLIE 700 plays off of the purple Memory Sticks. While you can play the files and thus read them, I don't think it allows you to copy the ATRAC off of the purple Memory Stick to your desktop. You can only delete it from the purple MS.

Thanks for your suggestion.
We will consider about it in our future product.
