I am considering purchasing the Visorphone, but I am curious as to what the quality is like for GSM providers. I live in central PA, and I know that VoiceStream has service in my city, but I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on what I might be able to expect in terms of my ability to get service in other areas (outside the exact bounds of the city, for example). Also, what is the reliability or quality like? Anyone have experience with VoiceStream? Thanks!

I have Voicestream (I live in NYC) and I like my service. In general I really don't have any problems with it.

GSM is still a growing market. You will find pockets of no service. Major highways and cities are covered across the nation. You might have a problem out in the sticks.

With AT&T joining the GSM crowd, service coverage is bound to get much better in a hurry.

I like CDMA better than GSM, (i.e. sprint over voicestream). Either way, though, I don't want a cellphone that isn't dual-band. Anybody else want to see dualband in the visorphone?

BTW: voicestream in the Twin Cities is actually pretty good. My fiance has it and has no complaints.

I agree that it should have all GSM bands on it. I find it hard to shell out $300 bucks for a US only phone when I just bought a Motorola P7389 (tri-band world) for abour $150.

There is no real reason for me to have al 3 bands on my phone. I bought it because the Nokia phones that Voicestream pushes are crap. I know a few people who have the 8290 and are sorry they bought it. For about the same price, I bought the P7389 because the Motorola phones are made much much better (in 5 years of GSM service, this is my 3rd Motorola phone).

As for analog. there's no such thing for GSM. To put an analog band on a GSM phone would require having a second cellular provider.

Although....with AT&T implementing GSM, I wonder if they'll (AT&T) have phones that will switch to their analog towers where GSM service isn't available yet.

Yes, I too am curious as to the quality of the Visor Phone. Also, is it comfortable to hold and talk on for an extended period of time? And is it integrated into the Visor's address book well?

Where is everyone getting the information about AT & T going to GSM. I would love to buy the visor phone but I have AT & T and I was under the impression that it (visorphone) would not work.
