Very dissatisfied with enclosed stylus. I am new to the PDA world but have done "my homework" - I think - with regards to purchasing a visor. I actually purcased a BVD and a solo for my wife. As soon as I got them I checked the stylus for burrs - found none so started entering data...within minutes my BVD had nicks all over it and several letters permanently etched into the text writing portion of the screen. At first just a little annoyed, but later actually angry and feeling a little cheated. Called HS tech problem/repairs - nerdy little guy on the other line. Told him what happened, not satisfied and he put me on hold for about 5 min then came back and said he could send me a new stylus. Not so fast I says..."I would like to speak to a supervisor about this problem I says..." And he replies, what we can do is send you a new unit and pick up your old one. "That will do I say - and please change the color to graphite because the transparent blue color looks too much like a Gameboy!" I'll wait for the new one, buy a different stylus and WriteRight and give it another try...

My advice - be firm but polite with Customer Service to ultimately get what you want.
Please share any similar problems with the stylus / screen.

I cut up a piece of overhead transparency acetate to make an impromptu screen protector. Works great!

Cut it to 7cm wide by 8.1cm high. Insert the left and right edges under the case to hold the protector in place.

Lightbulb

I'm using the stock stylus with my VDx and have experienced no scratches so far. Found that only a very light touch is necessary for Grafitti or tapping. I am getting a combo stylus for Christmas, however, because it is easier to hold.

The stylus is a known defective product ever since the first few Visors shipped. Handspring of course decided as usual that full steam ahead was the proper course of action and now we *all* have "screen-sctatchers" for our styli. This factory manufactured defect is covered under any standard warranty. You were right to demand a replacement.

I too was disturbed to see several minor scratches and nicks on my Visor's screen within moments of using it for the first time. However being a new user of PDAs, I assumed it was normal. Howerver, after reading this thread, I have my doubts.

So ... before I go ballistic on Handspring, is there a "normal level" of screen scarring to be expected? Or, should the screen be relatively unmarked? I have only had my Visor for about 6 weeks and the scratches and nicks are abundant. Especially, in the "graffitti" portion of the screen. Should this happen with a good stylus?? I would appreciate any comments from veteran users!

BTW, I have since ordered and received the "5 pack" of styli from Handspring ... definitely better quality than the piece of plastic that ships standard with the unit. The styli have a metal shaft ... and if you unscrew the writing tip there is a "plastic pin" on the opposite end for resetting the Visor. When you unscrew the top plastic portion of the pen from the metal shaft you will find a small phillips-head screwdriver. Nice feature.

Same issue here. They're replacing my screen and sending me 5 deluxe styli.

Made a good contact at Handspring. Read my thread: [email protected] for more info.

Also, WriteRights and the PDAPanache Stylus are both Wonderful. Been using them all day. Good stuff.
