-- I won the PDA lottery! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=14386)
I have just been promoted to a new position in my company and have found out that my boss buys everybody iPaqs, although many of my new team members have been waiting for months to get theirs. Anyway, I currently own a Visor Deluxe and love it, though I am lusting for color and the iPaqs have those beautiful screens. I'm considering asking for a Prism instead, and was just curious what everybody would do after winning the PDA lottery like I just did!
Any ideas, opinions, suggestions would be great.
Brad
I would sell your Deluxe to the first person to reply to your thread for $30 and enjoy my new Ipaq!!!

I would sell it to the third person for only a buck. It will bring you good luck
.
BEN
I would get the Ipaq. It can do so much out of the box, pocket word and excel, money, show pics, record voice, play music, etc.

As some one who has used both, I'd try for the Prism. I own a VDX, and have an iPAQ that I have been testing/evaluating for my company. While the iPAQ does have some nice features, and a beautiful color screen, I find my VDX more useful/usable. The iPAQ crashes more often, is heavier and bulkier (when accounting for the CF sleeve), is slower (takes longer to do things) and doesn't really do anything that you couldn't do with a Prism. Now I admit, that out of the box, it does come with more features, but the expandibility of the Visor, without sacrificing form factor, runs circles around iPAQ. There is also a greater selection, and a less expensive selection, of programs for the Palm OS platform. As a person who supports PDAs, I also have seen far less troubles with synching with Palm OS PDAs than I have with Pocket PC PDAs. While the iPAQ has a lot of eye candy and gizzy features, and is the best example of a Pocket PC I have seen to date, when I want to get stuff done, I go back to my VDX everytime.

Can't hurt anything to ask. If he wants compatibility with the rest of the work force, you can propose he spend the $50 difference on synctalk (is that it?). Then you can evangalize to our lost iPaq brothers. You better do it right, though, or you'll be excommunicated. To be considered a "visor-user" by Handspring you have to convert 1 WinCE user per week. I have a special dispensation from Jeff because I'm one of a very small minority here that uses a pda.

Too Late...
I went to visit my new officemate today and he was unwrapping his brand new iPaq that he had been waiting for for 4 months. Before I could say anything he said that the boss has one with my name on it and I get it when I start on the team in a couple of weeks. So it looks like I don't have a choice after all. I always have the option of stealing my old VDX back from my wife if I don't like it though. Or maybe she will become too attached to it and I'll have to go out and buy a Prism too.
Later,
Brad
