Handspring is not a Cell Phone Company..

I think the Treo is a neat step into the mobile world, but I don't think it is nearly a large enough step. What's the real function of this over say.... a Kyocera Smartphone, or that wierdo Sprint PCS phone? (Besides the neato keyboard I sorta wish all Palms had.)

Handspring should have broken down (or should break down) and simply go all-out on something like the Treo. What if it could remotely access my desktop, or could be used for Video-conferencing? (I'll admit that's a little far out, but post 9-11 , it's a market that could have some potential... mebbe a springboard module?... , which I'll get to later) And why is Handspring investing so much into a handheld, and not giving it a high-res screen? High-res screens sound like a "luxury" item, but we're not talking about a bottom-of-the-line PDA here. (which I finally broke down and bought, and haven't regretted a minute of it) If you think a high-res screen is irrelevant, compare it next to a Prism. If you don't think it's more pleasing to look at the high-res screen, well, you've proved me wrong.

But what irks me most, is Handspring's neglect of the Springboard slot! Maybe on a bottom-of-the-line version I can understand it, but the Treo should be the device that takes the Springboard to new levels! Imagine being able to send pictures (or even movie clips) from a vacation that you've taken with the eyemodule to friends/family! Or perhaps even a little Internet Radio Springboard module (who says these things can't have some form of Entertainment?)

I'm not saying Handspring should go out and make a PocketPC, but even Sony has proven that you can bring decent media to the Palm OS platform and still keep it from turning into the kludgy mess that the PocketPC is. Why is Handspring settling for another Smartphone? Am I the only person who thinks they should be aiming higher?
The Palmpilot took off because it was more than simply a "Data Bank." Shouldn't the Treo be more than your basic Smartphone?

HandSpring hasn't neglected the Springboard, the buying public and corporations have. Has any Springboard developer actually made a profit selling modules?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to design a good cell phone. HandSpring is more than able to design a capable cell phone. HandSpring can't survive just sell PDAs.

Sure, I'd like color, expandable memory and mp3 built-in! and even a newer, smaller springboard form. But I rather have it just the way it is if it gets here faster and gives handspring an early-market advantage. presumably that first model would drop in price and help it blanket basic users, while the rest of us wait just a bit longer....
