To this date I have noticed a fall in excitement not only in myself but in others with the Visor. Its not looking as apeeling to me as it did a year ago. In my opinion handspring has another 5 years to go before it is bankrupt and the Visor is forgotten. Just like the apple Newton.

If you and your friends have lost your "excitement" for the Visor, exactly what are you "excited" about? A Palm III? No thanks! Palm Vx...maybe! Palm IIIc....Yah right!

Come on, things can't be that bad? What don't you like?

If anything, I've seen MORE excitement about the Visor since some of the long-anticipated Springboards have finally been released.

Case in point - when a member of my family wanted to purchase a Palm OS device recently, they had a chance to take a look at my Visor and my brother's Palm. After seeing my Visor (and I only have the eyemodule and the backup module), it was a no-brainer. Even my Palm-owning brother said that the Visor purchase was a smart move. Simply put - the Visor is a better purchase at this point.

I can see the heavier VisorCentral users feeling a little stale over the lack of rapid-fire production and release of Springboards or new Handspring products, but the product is just now catching on in the mass public. But let's not mistake novelty with momentum.

Perhaps, rather than saying that the enthusiasm for the Visor is gone, you might say you were in early on a great thing. And it really is great.

What's died down is some of the exhuberance over fantasy springboards. Jeff Hawkins wanted the Visor to emulate the success of the Gameboy, but the Gameboy module are primarily software-based and enjoy higher profit margins. We're finding out that most of the hardware-based springboards carry a high production cost, which means that most of the "dream" springboards -- GPS, MP3, digicam, wireless modems, etc. -- are turning out to be a lot more expensive than we hoped for.

Still, the Visor continues to sell like hotcakes. I realize that most people on VisorCentral will disagree, but I think that most people (the average consumer, not techies) are buying the Visor because (1) it has an attractive price for the amount of memory offered, (2) it's Palm-compatible, (3) it comes in trendy colors for the younger demographic and (4) the Springboard slot is a bonus. I do not believe that the Springboard slot is the raison d'etre of the Visor. The only springboard I have is the backup module, and there are currently only five other module I would consider getting -- the main one being a wireless modem.

But PC Expo was, for the most part, a letdown. The subtext of all the "exciting" announcements was that most of the modules are going to be Q3/Q4 releases. Considering that most of the modules were announced during Q4 of last year, everyone's patience is wearing thin. Maybe that's what jbrenner was getting at.

It seems from your post you haven't purchased a Visor yet, you and your friends were just "looking".

I think it's unfair for you to say that Visor is going to be another Newton when you don't have one, and from the looks of things, you don't have any Palm device. The fact that you and your friends have lost your enthusiasm for a PDA does not mean that the Visor is a flash-in-the-pan fad.
