Question

Is there a difference between a 'Floating Event' and an 'Appointment'? It seems that an Appointment can be designated as 'floating', but still have a specific time attached to it... so are they the same thing?

How do you all decide whether to designate an item as a 'Floating Event/Appt.' vs. a 'To-Do'?

The Pimlico web site states it in more details at
http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/datebk3doc.htm

Even though it's for the full-fledged DateBk3 program, many of the information there also applies to DateBook+.

Think of a Floating Event as a combination of an Appointment and a To-Do-- combining the best of both worlds: Can be timed, can be alarmed, can repeat until checked off.

Well, as I see it, floating events and to-do items are very similar. The main differences are that floating events aren't prioritized, and to-do items don't show up on your calendar. There is also the concept of an appointment with no time, otherwise known as an all-day event in some organizers. Here's the breakdown of how I use them:

To-do: Lists of tasks I have to do at work, e.g. write this or that script, update stats page, etc.

Appointments: Things that happen at discrete times during the day, e.g. class schedule, parties, meetings.

Floating events: Things that I'm supposed to do on a certain day, but could be bumped to another day. e.g. Pay this bill, call this person.

All-day (no-time) appointments: When something is going to happen on a particular day, but doesn't have a particular time associated with it. For example "Rob and Simon will be out today", "Amanda leaves for Dominican Republic", "Last day of work on summer schedule"

I don't use the floating events very often, however.

actually, if you go into datebook+ under the 'Options' menu, select 'To Do Preferences' you can select which To Do catagories show up in your calendar.

Datebook doesn't have this feature...under the same 'Options' menu list, select 'Default Date Book' and set it to Datebook+ so that you use the proper datebook app which shows To Do's!
