MemPlug & Mapopolis

Has anyone gotten Mapopolis to work with the v 1.5 update on the MemPlug. It caused a crash when I tried it.

when you say:

you mean you could read maps off of memplug or that you could have the application on the memplug and the maps on ram? (that's all i've been able to do....)

I had the app in memory and the maps on the card and it worked fine.

How much free memory (internal RAM) do you have when you run it? Could you run large map (1MB or larger) with very little free RAM (less than 512K)?

Posted by enhanceyourlife on 07-08-2001 12:03 PM:

None of my maps are that large but i have more than 3megs free on the Visor. I use Launcher III (beta) which swaps apps in and out of memory so a lot of apps aren't on the Visor.

Just loaded up 1.6 and Mapopolis doesn't work. (app on Visor, map on card) I get error 775 which I can't break out of. It loops like that for several times and then it crashes.

I'm using a Platinum with the latest Handspring patch

Howdy enhanceyourlife... I have no problems running mapopolis in PiDirect with the 1.6 updater. I have both the maps and the application in my palm/PiDirect directory. It took a while for my map to load, but it works nonetheless... I could not get it to work with the app and the maps in different locations. I have a Prism with the latest Handspring patch.

Going to see if I can speed this up with hackmaster/afterburner now.

Hope this works for you! -Larry

Spoke too soon. After moving around a bit, going out of Mapopolis, and then back into the app, I now get errors too...

MemoryMgr.c,Line:5253,
Chunkunder-locked

I really hate it when that bugger gets locked!

Angry

I also have a lockup problem, but with a different error code.

Dratts, foiled again!

Hi Mike,

I have further study the case.
In fact, PiDirect v1.0 is compatible with Mapopolis.
And it seem that the cause of your problem is "Out of memory" in PiDirect.

As stated in our release note, when PiDirect is run out of memory, we will play the alarm sound to alert the user.

In fact, Mapopolis will open all its maps and get all its records once start. This result in problem when you have dozens of maps under \PiDirect\. It will attends to load all maps information into your internal memory.

You can try to put a smaller number of maps under \PiDirect\ to test with, and see whether it can solve your problem.

If you have registrate PiDirect, you can get around it is by manage your maps under different sub-directories and change the directory with PiDirectPanel to access your maps.

This may help.

Last night the apps on the card were acting wierd. PiBackup wasn't working right, so I tried deleting the PiBackup directory. It wouldn't delete. I reformatted the card and now Mapopolis works fine as is PiBackup. I think the FAT in the card was grunged.

Probably a great utility program to have would be a checkdisk-like thing to repair the card without reformatting.

Updater 1.6 still has trouble if you don't have any files in the \palm\pidirect directory. All the Pi utilities will crash if there's nothing in the directory. You can't even go to the PiDirect panel to disable it.

Thanks for your suggestion, we will consider about it.
For the problem of empty directory crash, it seem to be a conflict with HandSpring latest update. We will futher study it and provide an update soon.

It's a catch 22. If you don't have anything in the directory with PiDirect enabled, the PiDirect app will crash so you can't disable PiDirect so you can't run PiMover to put a file into the directory. Fortunately I have a second card which has files in the directory which I used to disable PiDirect enabling me to set the original card up.

I've also been trying to buy the registered version but there's a problem with the server. Chloe is (hopefully) trying to get that situation fixed for me. Do you guys offer any alternate payment methods?

BTW, Mapopolis is working great since I reformatted the card!!

I hope the same too. But the hope is as slim as they have a OS3.5 update for VDX.
