!@#@!#! Things are going wrong left and right!
Now I can't send OR recieve over IR! When I try to send, it gives an error of "Exchange Libraries Unavailable." When I try to turn on beam recieve in prefs, it won't turn on. It will ALWAYS stay off. Arrrgghh! My Visor has been so messed up!

Yo thejckal, judging from your other post about avantgo I would say that you have a lemon. You must call handspring and let them know they will probably send you a replacement. Make sure you get a backup module and backup your data.

I really think you need to send that lemon back.

Yea...

A few minutes after I posted, I did a soft reset, and it kept looping the Palm Logo!!!! It never went into the welcome thing or such! Handspring's gonna hear from me...

Lightbulb can't beam problem

One of my co-workers had the exact same problem. They had a program that didn't work well with their Visor. They did a hard reset and the Visor has worked well ever since. They lost all their data but the PDA worked. The program was a hack (I think that's what they call it??) Think if you put any new programs on recently or if something changed.

Lightbulb Du calme.

It's probably not a lemon, and if you call Handspring asking for an RMA they're gonna tell you the same thing: there's 3rd party program causing the problem. Either a hack, or some other system altering app which inits itself at start up. You can try:

- a warm reset, using the reset pin while holding the up arrow. Conserves your data, but doesn't let any system resident program turn itself on

- make sure EVERYTHING'S backed up (use free programs like Backup Bitster, they do the job)

- search and destroy the programs who's screwing things up (I had the same problem with Interpilot, a localization program. Progs like BDicty4.5, Silkypad, ChineseOS, any hacks of course can cause the problem or conflict). If you like, after the warm reset, give me a list of what you got, and I'll tell you what to kill.

- you will probably have to hard reset to get your IR libraries back. Once again, warm reset, backup, and sync first

!!! If you backup everything and restore without deleting the problem program and/or preference entry, you'll be back to square 1, of course.

Have you done a warm reset? That's where you hold down on the up scroll button while reseting in back. The IR libraries that control beaming are bypassed in a warm reset. If you do a hard reset (power button and reset in back) and check in Prefs you will find that beaming is on and can be turned off.

I have done ALOT of warm resets, thats the only way to get past the looping palm logo on a reset. But, I called Handspring, and they RECOMMENDED an RMA. But later (i gues my tech support guy was a luser) I figured out the problem myself! I was really proud...

I think it had something to do with the HsEXT, whatever they are. I noticed that whenever I did a hard reset, they were still there...
I deleted them on my Visor and in my backup folder. Then, I re-installed all my programs 1 by 1 and tested beaming after each one. Quite a process, but it was worth it!!!!!

Can anyone provide a bit more info on what this file might be. I have a HsExt1_0_3. Is this the one referenced above - can it be deleted? I'd really like to have beaming work but nothing I've tried so far has made a difference.

It starts out like it's going to beam the other unit even recognizes that something is going to be beamed but then it goes to the Beam interrupted message. Thanks

Red face

Did anyone here experience Fatal Exception error when doing IrDA beaming with a cell phone?

I have install SerialIrComm file on my Visor as instructed by HandSpring but whenever I used MyPhone software to comm with my Siemens 3568i, Fatal Exception error came out.

Any Help?

Thanks,
Felix
