I called the customer service today, they told me that the Visor will ship next week, on a first come first serve basis. Question is when did Handspring begin to accept pre-orders on these units? I just ordered mine last week, and the guy said don't expect the unit to SHIP until the end of the month.
Did they have that many pre-orders initially that it will take almost another two weeks to send my unit? I thought mine would have been sent during the first shipment.
Look through the discussion boards and you'll see alot of people here that ordered theirs the very first day Handspring took orders, 9/14. I ordered mine on 9/16 and can only hope what your CSR said is true.
I live in Canada, and just got off the phone with a CSR @ Handspring. He asked me for my last name and entered it into the computer.......presto, the info was all correct and he said because I was among the first couple thousand people who ordered, it should probably be shipped by the 15th. I ordered mine on the 15th or 16th, can't remember now. He did tell me that only the first people have been entered into the computer that's about it. I was just happy that he had my info, and had it correct. Confidence was slipping.

Laugh... I just called to verify my own info, (I ordered on 9/29) but to not seem like some pestering idiot (which I probably am) I asked about the case that it comes with.
First off, they seem to be taking orders for more than one type of case, a leather wallet that opens (as opposed to the slip in that ships with the deluxe) for 29.95 and when I asked if it had a place for id and ccards, he said that one was 44.95...
Nevertheless, the guy took ALL my information again (didn't even seem to -want- to try and look me up in the computer) and then told me I should expect my visor sometime in November... UGH
Oh well... I will get it when I get it. Am i wrong to want to call them back, and possibly get a more useful CSR to check on the status?

After seeing these posts it looks like it was a smart idea to order the first couple of days. Two weeks earlier for the first 2000. So for two weeks we'll be pretty special, just think... An elite crack team of Visor-carrying commandos, out to Visangelize and protect the common citizenry from WinCing as their money, battery life, and ability to see in daylight are taken away...

Absolutely not! They will all have to be Graphite so we can be stealthy as we sneak up on Wince where it hides, in the dark. Also, we wouldn't want to be confused with Steve Jobs and his iMac Avengers, fighting for market share!

OK, i'm going overboard with the calling...i called handspring again, but for a good reason. After I updated my shipping info to next day, i realized that If the units shipped Oct 15, I would not get mine until monday and next day would be useless...I called and asked about this but the tech person said he could not pull up my order because they were encrypted and sent to the warehouse...he also told me to not to get too excited but I may receive the email confirmation by tommorow (10.6.99). I placed the pre-order on 9.16 so it may be different for those of you who waited...lets (those who ordered early) keep our fingers crossed! 
ps, just to add, all of the handspring people i spoke to have been super nice and helpful.

Handspring just informed me that "orders from 14-17 Sep are frozen for changes until we receive a email from them (within the next day or so)". I had ask to make a change to my order and that was the statement. The rep said that something should be in place for me to make a change once I have the email in hand and call them back, though he wasn't sure how it would work. He had also rattled off that the product would be shipping next week.
