Wink I know this sounds stupid...

I just bought a case with a clip on it. I wore it for a little while and I felt dumb. What would you guys think of a chic wearing her Visor on a case that clipped onto her waistband?

I've resisted the waist-clip cases becasue they make me think of those tricorder holsters on "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

I do have a belt-holster for my Swiss Army Knife; I wore it for a year or so (a long, long time ago when I was a sanitation engineer) but I don't use it anymore except for storage.

I always have mine on my belt... Assuming I'm wearing a belt that is. Most people just think it's a cell phone in my Rhodiana case.

I'd think nothing of a girl wearing one on their waistband. It would make me think she was a smart girl.

Ark.

Hey girl,

I drive a bus and so on the left side on my belt I have a small Mag flashlight, and a pager. On the other side a ticket punch and now my Prism. I may look a little different but that's what I do and I'm a girl.

I try not to worry what others think of me, as long as I'm cool with myself. That's what counts.

Go for it!!!!!!!

Posted by mmendo1 on 07-09-2001 03:53 AM:

If I saw her at work wearing it, it would definitely catch my attention (just because women usually carry their things in their purse and not much on their waists) but then I would just forget about it. On the other hand, if I saw her wearing it at like a mall or some place casual away from work, I wouldn't look down on her but I definitely wouldn't look all that favorably on her either. I know that sounds incredibly superficial but that's my opinion. But hey, if a guy isn't going to give you a chance just because of something on your hip, he probably isn't worth it anyways. If you feel comfortable with it, go for it...to hell with what everyone else thinks (including people like me).

I gotta be the geek guy here

I would fall head over heals, and squeal in excitement, if I saw a chic wearing a visor on her belt. Showing ofdf your stuff eh?

no.. it would be cool to see a girl waering it.. but overall, I'm not too sure of the idea. 1) you lose your first since of safty of the visor, people normally don't know you have it in your pocket. On your belt, it's a lot more visable. 2) IMHO it's not as safe. that's IMHO 3) You get quick access, but it's akward, and I have to say, doesn't look that good. I don't even like cellphones on belts..

No differently than I would think of her otherwise. One small accessory isn't going to make a difference. People have been wearing Walkmans for years, a Visor is no bigger.

In general, male or female, I think it will depend on the case. I thought I looked like a geek with a plain black case I had, but now I'm using a Vaja Ostrich skin case and people are surprised it's a PDA inside.

Posted by BobbyMike on 07-09-2001 04:22 AM:

Just was in Phoenix and I saw a very nicely dressed young woman with a PDA clipped to her waist in a black leather case. I thought she looked fine. Her friend (also a young woman) had what looked like a Franklin Covey PDA case in her hand. She looked fine too.

I've seen your website PastaGrrrl and I think you have a dandy sense of design/style. I think you probably look great with a waist case.

If you're concerned about how you look, you could always dress in skin tight leather ala Emma Peel (Uma, or Diana) and then people wouldn't probably even notice where you put the case.

Thumbs up

I wear my visor in a E&B case on my belt...If I can get away with it, so could you.

Use a nice case though, some of those 1 size fits all cases seem awefully big to me...

I bring my Prism to work with me (I work as a projectionist at a movie theatre) it's a big help and i've wondered how i'd look if i were to have a PDA on my belt along with my maglight, walkie-talkie, and leatherman. As a manager, i'm supposed to look "professional" so that is my number two concern, number one being the safety of the Prism (just can't have a $400 toy breaking now can i?).

Anomaly's got it: the case is the key! As a woman-geek, I carry all sorts of gadgets - usually in a pack or a purse, sometimes on my belt - and I always try to use a high-end or at least a very good looking case...ahhhh image! But whatever you use, I second those who ask, does it really matter what others might think?

It all depends on what you're wearing I guess. If you're wearing jeans/pants then it would be ok. But, if you wearing a dress or skirt, then maybe not, or it depends on what type of dress/skirt it is. I don't think it's a girl/guy thing.

I usually wear smart casual to work, and my Grinder Gear Excursion on my belt. But if I was wearing a suit, I'd keep the Edge in my inside pocket, and my Excursion in my bag/suitcase.

Situation/occasion also might change my choice of wearing something on a belt.

One thing good about the Edge with it's metal cover, it can be it's own case

Of course adopting the Emma Peel look would solve your dilemma, as there would be NO place to carry your PDA!!

Please excuse me whilst I ponder fond memories of young, male adolescent crushes!!

I recall young, female admiration! Diana Rigg/Emma Peel was superb and sort of our icon at the time~!

But this is completely different if you have a Pocket PC. We may think differently of you.

I don't think it matters. However, I'm surprised you want to do it - not becuase of how it looks, but because as a woman you have the option of using a purse.

I currently pack around my Visor, Blackberry and cellphone, plus occasionally a stowaway, and wish I was secure enough to carry around a "manpurse" to hold the devices. I kind of envy my wife's ability to carry whatever-the-hell she wants without looking like Batman with a utility belt.

Exclamation Guys wonder too

I was a wee bit concerned about wandering around with my Visor on a beltclip (in a Rhodiana case) about a year ago. I'm anti-stylish and actively non-GQ, but even guys (hell, let's be honest -- even geek guys) wonder what people will think.

However:

  1. Having my Visor with me at all times has become extremely important, and this is the best way to do it. (This may be the only true addiction I've ever had.)
  2. It's comfortable.
  3. No one cares (or if they have, they haven't communicated it to me).

I hear what you guys are saying -- and YES, I do use purses like, 90% of the time. I would only do the belt clip thing for small excursions like to the grocery store, or WalMart, or whatever...you get the idea. But the other day (during my second half hour wearing the ugly belt thing) I caught a glimpse of myself in the glass of the freezer section in the supermarket. That belt clip case looked downright stupid, like some kind of medical heart monitor or something. Ho Hum. I will ditch the case and continue to toss my VPL into a pocket for those quick trips (I have to remember not to sit on it...) I refuse to look like an idiot.

By the way... I DID see some guy carrying around a "man-purse" in the supermarket that day. He seemed kinda young, and he looked weird.
