- How To / Troubleshooting (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=2)
-- Deletion of selected text (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2328)
Can someone please confirm this behavior (in Date Book+ and Memo Pad, probably in other apps as well).
After having selected some text (i.e, for copying or cutting), writing any letter in the Graffiti area will delete the selected text.
Is this an intended convenient feature or just a bug corrected in a later version of the OS?
Have you ever used a text editor on your computer? (Word, notepad, etc.) it does the samething.
yep, it is working just fine...
many computer users do not take advantage of this feature in virtually all windows programs. That is when you highlight text and then start typing, the new text repalces whatever is highlighted. You can also just hit delete or backspace (on the computer).
On your palm device just highlight text and either start entering new text or do a backspace (see graffitti help) or cut, copy, etc. (try this in memopad using the help from the drop down edit menu. You can also copy and paste text between different applications. When you cut or copy text it goes to the clipboard, then when you do a paste the text is then pasted...)
The problem is that text will be unintentionally deleted under (at least) 2 circumstances:
1. You give the stroke for a menu command, then you're a little bit late in writing the appropriate letter ("C" for copy, for example). By the time you enter the "C", the "Command:" prompt has disappeared; the result is that the selected text is deleted (and a "c" is entered into the document). (And if you then do a backspace-delete to get rid of the "c" that has appeared in your document, even "undo" won't bring your text back.
2. You invoke the "find" application and go to the record containing your found text. It's "highlighted" (selected). Entering a letter in the graffiti area will delete that text.
