Need Help with MP3 Player Suggestions
Need Help with MP3 Player Suggestions
Hi All,
I need some help with mp3 player suggestions. I'm looking for an mp3 player that meets the following criteria:
1) Must have an Armband to attach MP3 player to arm or secure way to attach while running
2) Must have an LCD Screen
3) FM Radio not necessary, but would be nice
Can anyone suggest any players for me? I've seen some Sony Memory stick mp3 players that have arm bands and play mp3s, but are there anything else?
Thanks

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?
Rio makes one that is branded by Nike. It is overpriced because you are paying for the Nike logo but it does suit your needs (It takes MMC or SD Cards)...goto www.riohome.com for more information...I actually think they might be clearing them out.
Alex.
P.S. If you don't like the Nike Mp3 player than I recommend any of the actual Rio products. They make great MP3 Players that also play WMA players and are quite compact.
Thanks so much for the suggestions. Are there any other arm-band mp3 players?
Thanks

Yeah I highly recommend the Rio products (though Diamond doesn't exist, it joined with another company(s) and became Sonicblue). I myself own a Rio 800 and use it all the time, everywhere. The Rio 800 comes with a nice beltclip case that keeps the Rio quite snug even when running (From my own experience I have never had mine slip out).
Alex.
I have a Samsung Yepp' YP-700. It has 128MB of Flash and takes SD cards. It also has a rechargable LiON battery and a separate holder for a single AAA battery that extends play time even longer. It plays MP3s and WMAs and the software will "compress" files so that you can actually load more than the memory would hold (actually, I think it just changes the sample rate on the fly). It also comes with a sturdy belt clip case that has not given me any problem either (although I don't run with it on).

What the Heck! It's what I want!
Since we are on the topic of MP3 players, I have been looking at them also but my needs are a little different. I have been looking for 6+ GB Hard Drive unit. I have gotten most of my reviews from cnet, anyone have any other good sites for reviews?
I like the Ipod but it is expensive and I would have to buy a firewire card and some third party software to make it work with Windows 98.
Sonicblue Rio Riot : Great idea but the thing is a brick (read : HUGE) and it only uses USB 1.1 which would be slow for such a big hard drive!
E Digital Treo : Good size but have read questionable reviews about its quality and it does not look that intuitive to use.
Archos Jukebox : Looks like the next best thing to an Ipod but still bigger than I was looking for.
What I would like to find would be something like the Ipod but built for Windows. I am not necessarily buying this week, has anyone heard of new units coming out which might fit my needs?
One last question, I was reading about an RCA MP3 player. What is MP3Pro and should I be looking for a player that supports it?

I use the aforementioned brick, the RioRiot. Personally, I like it. To each his own.
Using MusicMatch, I burn all my CDs to MP3Pro. I don't really know any of the inticacies behind it, but it gives you the same quality, in half the space. And--and this is the important part--it retains all of the compatibility with other MP3 players/formats. In short, if your player supports MP3s, it also supports MP3Pros. I've got about 6000 songs on my Riot, and its only 60% full. If I were using plain MP3, I could probably only get about 5000 songs on there.
I guess MP3Pro is similar in quality and size to WMA, but without some of the Microsoft glitches and compatiblity issues.

Good point, any (small) MP3 player can be put in a case for around your arm.. you may need to make it yourself, but say the original diamond RIO with a couple of elastic bands should even do the trick...

Well, this got me to wanting an iPod again. So, I headed over to Apple's site and to my astonishment, I found a 20GB iPod. Man oh man. Talk about storage.
Another interesting note, is they now appear to sell seperate iPod Models designed to work with Windows.
While you still need a FireWire card, it appears no additional software is required.

Happy Treo 600 user, so far. Thanx Cingular for having an unlocked phone.
My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.
Guess I have to upgrade to Windows 2000, no support for Windows 98.

I don't know if this one was mentioned or not, but before you get all hot and bothered over the iPod take a gander at this little gem
http://www.archos.com/us/products/product_jbmm.html
for an idea of the actual product size, look at the pics here:

Archos : 110 x 79 x 28 mm (4.3" x 3.1" x 1.1")
weight : 290g (10.2 oz)
Ipod : 4.0 x 2.4 x 0.84
weight : 204g (7.2 oz)
The Ipod has the edge in size, weight, battery life (because of grayscale screen) and we know the navigational tools are awesome.
Archos has advantage in price ($100 USD less), expandability, and color LCD screen.
I don't know boys, its a tough one!

Sorry Tool, I agree with Eric on this one but probably for different reasons. I find Music Match too complicated to use. I am just a casual user and am not familiar with all the things it can do.
Unfortunately I have not taken the time to find another MP3 ripper and am stuck fumbling my way through Music Match. I want something so simple my mother could use it!
