-- What does the BackUp Module actually back up? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5271)
Just got excellent PocketMoney software for my IVDX and when I do my hot synching to back up my data it doesn't back up the PocketMoney data!!!!! I am planning to get the BackUp module; would this back up EVERYTHING on the Visor, including the additonal software and data... aside from the contact, to do lists...etc that come with the unit?
Please help!
Thanks.
This topic has been beaten silly in previous discussion. But to answer your question, yes, the backup module backs up everything. But you can't do backups incrementally.
But is there another way to back up files? I use pocketmoney and there doesn't seem to be a way to backup data via hot sync.... oh well. so i suppose i have to get the module...
any other suggestions? thanks ragamuffin...
try a software sollution like BackupBuddy or BackupAll (second one is free, first one isn't..)
MacAddict,
ToolkiT mentioned the easiest to use, which is BackupBuddy. Its operation is almost seemless, but I just think the price ($29.95) is somewhat steep. BackupAll is free, and it does the job, but it alone lacks refined control over the backup process. I think the best way is to go is to use BackupBitster. You can read more about it here http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/000456.html
I forgot to mention earlier that many of us use both a software backup solution and the backup module. The security and convenience of having a small, highly portable backup module is worth the price. I think the two work together, because the module cannot restore your Visor incrementally, while the software solution can, sort of. (You must manually make sure that you "archive" the desired .prc and .pdb files from the backup folder to another folder to prevent writing over the old data with the new. Then to restore the databases or apps in question, install them as you would any normal app.)
