Don't try this at home...actually don't try it anywhere. Starting from the beginning: during my 6 year son's projectile vomiting, my only 2 concerns were his welfare and getting him out of the living room and to the nearest bathroom. The race to the bathroom was fairly successful, however my shirt got pretty messy along the way.

My wife took over his welfare, while I commenced cleaning up. Into the washing machine I added all of the couch covers, a blanket, his clothes and MY SHIRT. Lets see if you can figure out where this is going.

The washer ends and I remove the clothes and a very moist, shaken and stirred BVD. The Horror! No, it didn't work. After chewing on my fingers for a while I decided to crack the case and let it air dry overnight. Guess what it works...mostly. The screen has a nasty streak on it and most of the buttons don't work. It also seems slower. But otherwise it functions. I will be on the phone to tech support today and we'll take it from there. What are the odds that this is covered by my warranty?

My son is fine, just a case of grandmotherly excess (She allowed him to have at the mall/movie theater: the big popcorn, Taco Bell, and lotsa sweets). If I was with them at the movie I would have tempered his intake. It says something like that in the owner's manual.

Agreed that this was a lousy way to start the Holiday's (and my first vacation of any consequence in a year). However, Handspring has come through, way beyond my expectations. I told them the full truth, and they say it IS covered by warranty!! I mailed my old unit off today and I should have a replacement in 2-3 weeks. I think that is amazing.

First: I'm very glad your son is OK...I understand that the little tykes are pretty resilient; I imagine he'll be up early on Xmas morning wondering why everyone is so tired and reluctant to get up and open presents (if that's your custom).

Second: Very impressive about Handspring CS! Makes me even happier with my Ice VDx. In any case, I'll try to learn from your experience!

I have to add this...I think I'll stick with my furry, 4-legged kids--vomiting, yes, but no projectile vomiting (at least not yet), and generally much less upkeep.

Hope your family has a great holiday with no more surprises (except the good kind).

Do you have to send something in to get the warranty? i didn't read much of the user guide and i ws wondering. thanks

They did a search by my name in their computer, had me verify some information and that was that. I don't think there is a registration process per se, since Handspring itself is the only source of the unit. That will likely change when they start becoming available through retail channels.
