Which rechargable is better: Alkaline or NiMH?

I just received 8 AA Nexcells and the lit that came with them said they are twice the capacity of Alkalines. Somebody on this board recommended them and I ordered them immediately for my digicam. Gor for it!

alkaline is not truly rechargeable... Go for Nickel Metal Hydride... as long as you stay away from the old memory battery, NiCad...

Thumbs up

Go NiMH. The capacity may still fall short of what is claimed for alkaline (Renewal) cells, but it's a far safer bet.

Alkaline rechargables still have a problem with swelling of the cathode. This can result in a stuck battery if it expands in your device. In the case of the Renewal, the battery construction is reversed to reduce the swelling, but this has an unfortunate side-effect of making the sides of the battery case continuous with the cathode, and not the anode as in most cells. This may cause a short-circuit condition in some devices such as mini-flashlights that use the battery case as the negative conductor.

Besides, with an almost-two-month battery life on alkalines, who cares if you give up a couple of weeks?

...especially since you don't need to keep running to the store with recharables...a set in the charger, a set in the device, times (conservatively) 300 charges, times, oh, 1 month per set...you end up with batteries for the next 50 years for $10, plus a charger. I put in my order for 4 AAAs (visor) and a bundle that included 4 AAs and a charger. Spent $50...I figure a buck a year is not bad for batteries. :]
www.nimhbattery.com if anyone was wondering where.
