-- upgrade from delux to platinum using backup module (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10421)
Is there a reason not to backup my Deluxe, and restore to a my new Platinum to avoid reinstalling all my applications? If it didn't work I guess I could always just do a hard reset on the Platinum. Thanks!

Interesting. The OS on the Dlx is v3.1H3M. I tried the backup & restore and the OS on the Platinum is v3.5.2H1..
(there are two dots after the OS version). So out of curiousity, I hard reset the Platinum and it's still the same OS, v3.5.2H1.. So I should still go and delete the patch from the Dlx, then backup & restore?
Thanks!

). I'm not sure what the periods mean after the OS version on the Platinum, though.__________________

Will do. While that's in progress, am I correct in assuming that everything that was restored to the Platinum is obliterated by a hard reset? I thought that was a safe assumption, but then I've lost count of all my mistaken assumptions... ;-)
Um, that patch is not to be found on either Visor. IIRC, the app that patches the OS could be deleted after it was applied. I just checked the HS tech support page and quote:
---------------------------------------------
Q. Can I remove the update once it has been installed on my Visor?
A. Yes. Although most customers will want to use the update installed by Handspring Updater V1.0.0, it is possible to remove the update. Customers will need to perform a HotSync operation and then remove the "HsExt_1_0_3 or "HsExt_1_0_3M" update file from the user Backup directory that is located in the Palm directory. Perform a hard reset of the Visor. On the next HotSync operation, the update will not be reinstalled since it is no longer in the user's Backup directory. Customers will need to reinstall Handpsring Updater V1.0.0 if they wish to reinstall the appropriate update for their Visor.
---------------------------------------------
this suggests that I may want to delete the Updater from my backup directory (though it may not even work on the Platinum and I've never heard of this being an issue before).
FYI: Everytime you restore to your platinum from your backup module, you will get a message saying that the data came from a different visor (your orignal VDx). Something internal keeps track of the S/N or something. whether this will cause any problems, I don't know.
