-- Avantgo & color? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11133)
I have seen a number of people refer to Avantgo as being a color app. However, when I switched from a VDX to a Prism, Avantgo has remained in B&W despite downloading a new copy from the Avantgo site.
Anyone got any ideas?
While AvantGo is "color capable" the interface is, for the most part, text and color is of no great use.
It is up to the content providers to use color in their offerings. If they don't use color there's little AvantGo can do about it.
An area where you can see color is AvantGo's Web browser. When on the main AvantGo screen tap the "Menu" icon then "Channel" and "Open Page...". You will be able to enter the URL of Web page. Of course you must have a (wireless) modem to use this feature.

Do a search in the Software forum for Avantgo in color if the VisorCentral channel still isn't in color for you.

Well I got it to work by following the instructions below provided by another Visor user, Josh. Thanks alot Josh!
This is the message:
I've just gotten mine to work. Here's what you need to do.
1. On your PC desktop- disable the hotsync manager.
2. Uninstall Avantgo and MobileLink from your PC.
3. In your Palm backup folder, delete all avantgo files, mobilelink, and libmal.
4. On your handheld delete Avantgo, Libmal, and Mobilelink.
5. Hotsync your handheld.
6. Download and install the latest version of Avantgo and follow their installation steps.
It should work after this. My Avantgo Icon still looks greyscale, but my channels like Foxnews and Yahoo are now in color.
Hope this helps.

nmarrion - my experience has been pretty good, although at first I was asking the same question. When I checked through my desktop, it turned out that many of the sites I was using through AvantGo simply don't use color. I think most of the AvantGo "partner" and "optimized" sites are not using much if any color, since few Palm users have color units. But in general, if I can see colors on my desktop when I go to that site, I can see it on my Prism.
color can be inconsistent
Has anybody else experienced this?
-You're able to get color working with avantgo...yahoo, fox news and fox sports work great...
-THEN, it all goes back to b & w when syncing with avantgo
-To fix this, I then clear out all content on the handheld via the channel manager within avantgo (select all channels then select to clear all).
-Re-sync via modem sync...color is back.

It also appears that none of the content providers use images in their offerings. What a waste!

Well, I wouldn't say none, but you are correct that they are rare.
There are color images occasionally in Space.com, all the time in Waiting for Bob, and lurking in the "Babe of the Day" link of Joke of the Day.
IT WORKED
I was really bummed after getting my prism and discovered that nothing in Avantgo was in color. But now, after that hellish process the color has appeared. It's so cool. BTW the Rolling Stone Channel has color images. Thanks Josh!!!
The BBC news has a lot of color photos, in their news events every day, and these show up well on Avantgo - no scrollimg around needed. It will impress your friends who don't have color.

The Channel I sync to is BBC News Online - Front Page at http://news.bbc.co.uk/text_only.htm
In spite of the title this comes up in color for me

Jon - you can get more than 2MB of AvantGo docs if you set up multiple AvantGo accounts. Go to the AvantGo site where you would begin downloading the software, but instead click on the option that says you already have the software and want to configure a new account. Follow that procedure, select your web pages under the new account name, and then follow the steps to sync your device. You can switch between accounts on your handheld by clicking Menu-Go-Choose Server. You'll find the web pages for each account under that account name. (Now you're going to be saying that 8 megs isn't enough!)

Avont Go Does Support Color
I've got the latest version and it does support color -- assuming the web site sends their info out in color. As an example, the Arizona Republic page will show color icons on their daily weather summary for Phoenix.
If you subscribe to the VisorCentral channel, you'll find that the reviews have color photos and graphics.
