Jeff,

I'll work on it...I've been busy with my work but hopefully I get around to do that tonight.

Lightbulb Damn

Damn. These Japanese Visor owners got some great ideas. No wonder a lot of the cool gadgets on the market are from Japan.

Talking

Well, I translated it & sent it to Molly. I didn't post it here since MOlly has copyright to the page. Also I think it's easier to understand with photos. Hopefully he post it on PDC soon. I don't have any technical knowledge for electric wiring so if anything doesn't make sense, let me know.

some guy in germany was the first to do this with his palm. and a while back last year a user here was able to do this and posted it in text. I think it was totaly overlooked but i've been doing this for a while now myself.

Good Machine Translation from Japanese to English

Hi all..

I did some poking around on Palm deCool, I noticed in the webpage an address as well as some English talking about translation of the site.. well, I managed to get the exact URL, it turns out to be an EXCELLENT Japanese to English web page translator.. (I think however the article was suggesting it to be used the other way around)

http://www.teletranslator.com:8080/

I used it to browse the Japanese only web pages on Palm deCool.. As well as a few other Japanese only web pages that I have been really dying to know what they are talking about. It's not perfect, but it's very good.

I'm not saying Taki doesn't do an excellent job, (just the opposite!) we just don't want to wear him out by translating every single Japanese web page out there!!

(btw - Thanks Taki for your help.. )

More on Machine translation

If you get a save file dialog box when translating a page, just cancel it.. I don't know what causes that. MIME type unknown I guess. It should work fine when you cancel it.. You may need to reload the window though, seems to get stuck once a day when I use it (or it could be the translator is just busy..?)

I fianlly can read Taki's UMSB (user made spring boards) web site! Very interesting stuff going on there too..

I like the idea of charging the Visor when not hotsyn. I am thinkinig of making the visor charging cradle using the information on link above. However, there are some questions that I need the clear before I will open my visor.

1)Is the IBM Workpad 30J charger meant for Litium Ion battery?

2)I only manage to find the "Palm IIIc Recharger Kit" for palm IIIc with internal Litium battery. Can this be used for Visor with Ni-MH battery for the construction of your charging cradle?

3)Can I use normal power supply to charge the Ni-MH battery after making the modification. If yes, what voltage and current rating should I use?

Thank you

Ronan

I also thought it was a good idea untill..

I liked the idea of being able to charge while in the cradle, until I looked at the Minijam's external battery pack option, apparently it can take power from the usb connector. This made me really think about the modification, I wouldn't want to fry my minijam.

Actually it would be the other way around: the MiniJam battery pack could fry the Visor. I think the MiniJam battery pack is 6V. Way higher than the 3V to 4V maximum that that NiMH battery charger will output.

This would be a problem if you didn't cut that trace inside the Visor that disconnects the VDOCK power input from the Springboard slot. See Molly's photos near the bottom of his web page for the optional trace cut.
