-- AvantGo-free hotsync?? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2450)
Is it possible to do a quick hotsync without updating AvantGo??
AvantGo update takes most time while hotsyncin'.
It would save me a lot of time if AvantGo could be disabled.
Sure -- What I've done is go into the HotSync Manager setup, and set the MobileLink conduit to a default of "Do Nothing"
Then, when I actually WANT AvantGo to update during a sync, I switch MobileLink back to "Synchronize." That's a 3-click process, but it takes less time overall than waiting through repeated AvantGo updates I don't want or need. The nice thing is that the MobileLink conduit will revert back to "Do Nothing" status after that one sync if you don't also check the DEFAULT box when you change it.
Or, you can set up avant go to sinc once a day by chaging your setting at there web site.
Just another option, but I like Bad's.

I just leave the conduit to synch, set up the channels for the update frequency I want (for ea channel). If I don't want an update on a specific hotsynch when the window on the desktop (Win98) comes up of updating AvantGo channels just *Cancel* that window and the rest of the hotsynch proceeds normally.
There are plenty of times I don't want to do it, so I just hit "cancel" to stop it. It's a manual process each time, but then again most times I want it to sync up and use Avantgo.
I wrote two batch files that I run via shortcuts that switch my users.dat file back and forth from one that contains syncing with Avantgo and one that doesn't sync with Avango.
A. Change your preferences to sync. In Windows Explorer, make a copy of the user.dat file and call it users_full.dat.
B. Change your preferences to not sync. In Windows Explorer, make a copy of the user.dat file and call it users_slim.dat.
C. Make two batch files. Call the first, users_slim.bat.
cd c:\pilot
copy users_slim.dat users.dat
Call the second users_full.bat.
cd c:\pilot
copy users_full.dat users.dat
Obviously, you have to remember to run the batch files. I also disable the email sync in the quick version, so it doesn't attempt to connect with the server.
The biggest problem is that you have to do this whole procedure over everytime you add something that has it's own conduit. Or, if you add another user to your PC (for instance, I added my wife's Palm to my PC).
Good luck and if anybody has a better way, I'm all ears.
i have a sort of related question...
I was using Truesync for a while, then uninstalled...when I did, I lost my avantgo conduit...how do I get my conduit to show up in the hotsync menu so I can sync it? should i download it again from avantgo?
thanks,
Harry
You need to reinstall avantgo, but just the desktop portion. Unfortunately truesync formerly had a problem where it was interfering with other conduits. There is an upgrade for truesync it so that it now works fine, but I have had to install avantgo 20 times before I downloaded the newer truesync version.
FYI, this is not a commercial.
We have a Soon-To-Be-Relased product, code name 'Slim', can limit how many apps. to be HotSynced at your own wish. You don't have to touch Desktop setup, only on your Visor/Palm device.
This will work with AventGo.
If you are interesting in testing this program, please send me an e-mail to [email protected].
