-- HS delays shipping replacement Prisms. Did you know that? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12181)

Angry

I'm waiting for my second replacement prism. The rep. at the tech deparment told me it would be 2-days before I received my Prism--this was the phone call that initiated the return process. During the week I've been calling Handspring over and over, until one of the operators told me that it usually takes a week until the Prism is sent out. This delay only occurs for Prisms.

The same happened with the first replacement unit. Yet I was also told that the unit would arrive in 2-3 days, but it didn't come until a week later.

So, I guess we can only be patient.

Handspring told me 7 to 10 days for a replacement Prism.

My first replacement arrived overnight. It was mute so I called for another replacement the same day and I got it one week (exactly) later. I don't know what's going on.

Got my replacement VPR overnight as well... They may be behind "refurbishing" previously returned VPRs, and don't want to dip into the new stock.

My replacement took about 8 days if I remember. I asked to get a new one and was told they do not send refurbished units on Prisms since they are new. Somehow I doubt that

I doubt that too! How many user VPR owners returned their units due to screen flicker/paint issues when they were first introduced. I do not think those units were disposed of.

prism returns

The returned prisms with flicker or paint issues are probably donated to the homeless.

Thumbs down

I also experienced same delays in the replacements, it is a shame they cannot provide better service, they get you into using their products, one device does it all, organizer manager, phone, etc, now when one of them does not work, and everything shuts down you need prompt customer support. if they really want us to use their devices as a one does it all, they should be ready to replace units on 24 hours base, .
My experience with customer service has been below standard, they are very polite, and etc, and well trained to answer, and not to let you speak with a supervisor, unless you have extra time on your hands to waist around and continue to ask for a supervisor.
My experience with Palm was excellent, replacement units on 24 hours all the time. with HS took a week to replace my prism, then 5 days to replace my visorphone. Hope palm comes out soon with new unit color and phone, so the competition will bring Hs to the place they have to be.

I'm assuming their needing to get rid of every prism with the old paint, would you send out a refurbished unit with the same paint job and have to pay to have returned over and over and over and over and over or would you just send a new one with a good paint job once? I wouldn't be surprised if most of the "refurbs" are new. I'd be more surprised if Handspring lacked the foresight to provide a permanant fix to a recurring problem.

Might they put a new case, with a good paint job, on old Prism's?

Good point. Probably.

Question Replacement units not new?

I had to get my Prism replaced after cracking my screen (oh, the pain! the shame!). Even though I live in "no such thing as ground shipping" Hawaii, the replacement unit was in my hands within a week.

I do suspect, though, that my replacement unit wasn't fresh-off-the-line new. At first it was just a gut feeling... then I noticed that the thin silver metal serial number sticker in the springboard slot looked like it had been messed with (is there a screw behind there?). And maybe three tiny - and I mean, smaller than pin-pricks - little scuffs in the casing, like you'd see after maybe a month of otherwise very careful, conscientious use.

Maybe the latter was just the handling within Handspring, but the sticker bubbles are obvious.

(The screen was a bit scan-line flickery, like my first unit, but of course I knew at once how to fix that!)

Still, a lightly used Prism sure works a hell of a lot better than one with a cracked screen, so...
