-- 8MB module and program compatibility (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5255)
I've read the review and reader responses to the 8MB flash springboard, but no one has posted specifics other than "some docs" or "any docs" don't work, cause it to crash, etc. The reviewer points out that CSpotRun with the Bible functioned well. Anybody who has used it care to post specific failures and successes with other applications and/or docs?
I'd like to purchase the module and use it as a medical reference, in particular with some of the @hand library (Merck manual, PDH, etc.) Anybody have experience with the @hand reader and reference books?
I have a Visor Solo with 8MB Flash Ram.
CSpotRun, iSiloFree, and ZCatalog work fine on the flash module.
AportisDocMobile crashs my Visor.
PalmDragon (for Chinese input) does not work on the flash module.
ePocrates will crash
I have the following apps running from the module:
Ascii Chart (an ascii chart, with paste)
Bofh (A joke)
ChaCha (IR chatter)
CSpotRun
(I keep tons of docs on the ie, 5 volumes of the hitchhiker's trilogy, and Dombey and Son.)
CSV Man.L (a spread sheet reader, not an editor)
dbScan (I use it to clean up extra shortcuts created after the soft resets)
date wheel (simple date math calculator)
dbExplorer (way cool app ... returns and alters a lot of system information, including diddling with backup bits)
KScope (a toy)
Mirror (the screen blacker)
Oracle (an 8-ball toy)
PicChat (another IR chat thing)
PocketChess
RamHog (system info)
TikTok (a multi-event timer)
The common is that the apps do not write databases.
I tried keeping AvantGo system files over there and the databases in Flash, but that did not work. I think it caused my first round of "hard" resets (which were not, thanks to BackupBuddy all that "hard.")
Thanks Luke and v - you've saved me some time!
If you use Peanut Reader, you'll notice that there are two data files for each book or magazine on your Visor. Since I am proceeding cautiously, I've loaded just the large file (the actual document) into flash; and I'm running with the application and the smaller configuration file (guessing that it holds registration info and bookmarks) in the Visor's memory. This works fine, and I probably won't tempt fate by loading the small file into flash as well.
Yucca, I've got both the Peanut Reader app and the main novel datafile on my FlashRam, and just the smaller novel datafile in the Visor's memory. Works like a charm!
To the first question, yes the 8meg module will work with @Hand's software. I currently have the PDH and the Merc Manual from @Hand on the module, along with the reader itself, and they work fine.
