Question

Why does the 8 MB Flash module cost so much more than the Backup Module? As I understand, both have 8 MB of flash memory, with the only difference being in the software that's included on them. 40 bucks for some extra software?!

The backup module is just to back up and nothing else but the 8MB module will increase your memory to total of 16 MB. You can use it to store additional software and/or documents.
Come to think of it, you're probably right the 2 modules are probably very similar. Why is the flash module is $40 more? Good question.

i think (and that's a BIG "i think", not a "i'm sure") that the only advantage that the 8MB flash has over the backup module is if you have the 2MB visor. the 8MB flash will give you a total of 10MB, but the backup will only supply you with 2MB of backup memory (since your visor ram only has 2MB, you can only backup 2 MB of info and the 6MB would be unused). make sense?

No, both have 8mb. The two units use different kinds of RAM. The Backup's RAM is faster, but it can only be written to ALL at once. The add-on module allows you to transfer individual programs and files to the unit, though it still has problems editing small things on the card itself...

Cool

Thanks for all the info.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be happiest if I could buy one of the 8 MB Flash Modules w/ a backup program installed. That way, I could backup the 5 MB's that I used on my BVDx, and still have 3 MB's left to use for other, non-archival storage.

You can use the 8mb module as backup, by moving everything to it (as long as you don't want to run those programs from it). But it'll be slower than the complete backup in the dedicated module.
