-- VPR will not install web clip files for PQA's (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=14402)

Posted by PDACPA on 04-25-2001 05:53 PM:

I am trying to load the Palm VII files so that I can access the PQA files on my VPR.

I downloaded the files from this link:

http://www.woggledog.com/new-web/pa...tml#webclipping

(pardon if i messed up the hyper link)

However, when I try to install them, HOTSYNC refuses to install them and they continue to remain in the Palm Install (ready to be installed on the next hotsync).

I even tried PilotInstall and they would not install either.

Anyone have any ideas? The PQA's install fine, they just do not show up in the launcher.

I have 2mg free on the VPR and 8 free on my 16mg hawigara.

Are you using a 3rd party launcher? What modem are you using if any? (This is stupid of me to ask but...) Did you check the unfiled category? If you are using the Omnisky Modem then there is a link in The Omnisky App called 'Web Clippings' You can click that and it will show up all the PQA's you have installed.

Maybe I am mistaken

I do not have a modem, yet! But I thought that I read that if I installed the webclipping files (I think there were like 7 of them) and then accessed thru my USB hotsync (sort of like Avantgo, that I would be able to have some of the data in the PQA. For example: ABC News. I would have the web clipped data (as in after you closed the Palm VII antenna and were offline). I understand that I would not be able to press the PQA and obtain a current movie listing.

Thanks for the help.

iNet_library.PRC 42k
Security_library.PRC 49k

I need to gather my data before posting but here is what the hotsync log says:

ERROR: Unable to create file on handheld.

Hmm, on my Visor those files are supposed to be .PDB files Maybe you could try renaming them?

I was going to mention that too but realized he said he has a Visor Prism, which has OS 3.5 or higher and should show PQA's. Hmmmm

I renamed them and they did not work. Still received an error message. I am running a Prism with OS v.3.5.2H1

I will look for that program that someone suggested, but am still curious as to why this will not work.

Maybe something in OS 3.5 detects if it is a Palm VII and then allows the web clipping accordingly? (I've never used 3.5 before so I wouldn't know, but I will when i upgrade my VDX to a VPR this summer)

VPR is GREAT!

Color is awesome! But get the 16mg memory card. I am even thinking of having Tony upgrade my VPR to 16mg so I have 32 total. But I will wait until my VPR is out of warranty before I do that.

I'd have to agree that the VPR's are great. Guess where I go to first at CompUSA?? hehe.. I don't know about upgrading to 16MB.. I'm still not convinced that it's very safe either. And I've heard that it takes a few weeks to get it upgraded and I just can't stand to go that long without a Visor around. I bought my VDX with the intention that I MIGHT use it every once in a while. It has become something that I carry around with me everywhere, my new best friend.

You are totally right. I cannot live without mine either. So far I have only read great reviews of Tony's upgrade service and I have been reading about them since he started doing them with the Palm V and unglueing and reglueing. My only concern is that I do not want "stacked" chips. I would prefer that he replace my chip.

Now as far as being without, I could use my old Palm Pro (upgraded to 2mb) which would solve my contact calendar needs. I suppose you could buy one that had a money back guarrantee (though thats kinda dishonest).

You're right on haven't heard anything bad about his upgrades. Maybe I'll upgrade my new VPR and during it's time away from home I should borrow my old VDX back from my girlfriend..

Where do I get info on where to upgrade the VPR?

www.jpmobile.com it's called the surewave browser. I use it on my VDX and it works fine. I just add the pqa's to my install tool and they show up in that program

I'm not sure if they'll show up if they're installed before you install the browser but they should if you install them after the browser is installed.

I haven't tried the WAP one yet. I'm not really impressed by WAP anyways.
