-- Win95-USB Sync: Anyone Lucky? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1983)
Has anyone been sucessful in getting
Win95 USB sync to work?
If you have, please respond so that I may
try to get it to work.
I got as far as initiating the first sync,
at which point a "Found New Hardware"
box came up and windoze installed the driver
for the visor, but then it never actually
syncs.
When you look at the system applet under
the control panel, the visor is there under
the USB heading, but with one of those nasty
yellow exclamation mark icons.
Once the visor gives up on the sync,
the visor disappears from view under USB.
Perhaps the serial is THE only option under
win95 - or perhaps one could mess with the
driver file???
RUSS,
HAD THE SAME PROBLEM (I PLUGGED THE CRADLE IN BEFORE THE SOFTWARE)
BUT THIS IS FOR WIN98 SORRY!
Here is the fix via handspring
(Via handsprings site)
USB cradle
If you try to synchronize Visor without installing the new Handspring version of the HotSync Manager, your computer can get into a state where it cannot properly locate some specific USB drivers. If your computer prompts you for the location of these system files, select the VISORUSB.SYS file located in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. To avoid this problem, be sure to first install the desktop software that comes on the CD-ROM included with Visor.
If HotSync Manager fails to connect, try removing other USB devices-even if they are connected to another USB port.

I heard Win95 doesn't support USB, though. That's why all the USB devises says they run on Win98.
But I think I've seen USB support file for Win95 on Microsoft Site. You might want to try that out.
I have applied the 'usbsupp.exe'
patch to 'win95 B' (OSR 2.?)
THe USB root hub and motherboard iface
both appear normal under the USB part of the
system applet.
As far as I can tell, USB is working.
I think the problem might be with the
driver that handspring has shipped.
If you look at the contents of the visorusb.inf file,
it installs visorusb.sys into windows/system32
which doesn't exist under win95
I copied visorusb.sys into windows/system
but this still hasn't fixed the probelm.
Registry keys containing 'visor' don't really
reveal all too much either.
I've pretty much given up on the whole thing
at this point.

Everything I have read said that it will not, can not, work with Win95. Sorry.
