-- OmniRemote - Any good? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5432)
I've been seeing a few things about the OmniRemote in non-VisorCentral circles? The concept is intriguing. Does anyone have any opinions on this Springboard? Does it work well? Is it worth the money?
I got the Omni Remote about 2 weeks ago and it has definitly simplified my remote setup. I orginally had 6 remotes taking care of the TV, cable, DVD, CD Player, Receiver, and VCR. About 3 months ago I bought one of those remotes that you use codes to get it to work and that worked alright, but I still had problems with not be able to use all the functions available on the original remotes. Since the Omni Remote is a learning remote I was able to press the button on the remote and it was then available on my Visor. The learning does take a while especially if you need to create new buttons and testing to make sure everything works the way it should. Once it has been set up it just flies. The range is very good I have been able to stand back about 20 ft and still turn on of my components. The macros also work well. The only thing I don't like about the product overall is that the manual is only viewable on the Visor. There is no paper manual which makes learning the functions of the remote harder than if there was something physical to look at. All in all the product is very good and stable. I am seriously thinking about buying a second visor just to act as a remote.

Works well enough, if programmed correctly. I personally don't like LCD screen based remotes. I prefer those all-in-one remotes with real buttons, if you can get one that does everything for you. The main problem with the Visor is you can't see much in the dark unless you turn on the back lighting. Call me lazy, but I think the tactile feedback of a button real remote is much less of a hassle.
