-- Problems with MatchBookDrive / FAFileMover ? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12341)
I just got my MatchBookDrive yesterday or so, and while it's really cool and useful I am having some problems with it.
I have a whole bunch of books in text file format that have been converted to PalmDOCs. I went and copied them to the CF (CompactFlash card -- it's a Simple Technology 64MB, on the list of compatible cards), but at one point some of them disappeared. After looking through the docs, I came up with the conclusion that long file names (above 35 characters, I think it was) might be causing the problem (the documentation stated that long file names would cause trouble in copying from the CF to the Visor, but I didn't notice anything that it said about the other way around.
That aside ... I made directories for fonts, general apps, books, and movies. I copied all my apps to the CF, then copied all my fonts to the CF. Everything went fine, but then I copied over a bunch of PalmDOCs into my books directory, and suddenly both the fonts and apps directories appear to be empty! I know that they're there, since the space is still allocated for them -- I just cannot seem to find them with the FAFileMover utility.
Later on, something similar happened: I uploaded about fifteen TealMovie and FireViewer animation files. Then I uploaded a few more PalmDOCs, and now for some bizarre reason I have only four animation files listed in my movie directory (or anywhere on the card viewable to the software, for that matter!).
Incidentally, since there are now hidden files in my directories, I get the following message whenever I try to copy over a file with the same name:
"Fatal Alert
../Src/CFFATInternals.c,
Line: 2089, Err 0006
[Reset]"
Anybody have any clues? Are there any particular file name characters that need to be avoided in files to be copied to the CF? For example, some of the PalmDOCs originally had spaces in the file names.
I welcome all good ideas and comments. ;)

have you tried emailing dave kessler at [email protected] ? he can help you sort out whether it's a bug in the software or something caused by the file names.

I wanted to get the opinion of a larger base of people first. Plus, I've seen that he reads here, so I figure I can get both ways done with equal effort. :)
