Post

Well, I have done some reserch into data aquisition with my Visor Delux, and I just found more questions. So now I am looking to the wisdom of the masses. I do a lot of pH monitoring and I am looking for a decent way to take measurements of pH and watch them over time. I know there are a couple of data aquisition modules out there, and some cooming out. But none of them have specifically shown any method of doing pH measurements of recording them over time. I was wondering if anyone has managed to rig up such a device and what thier success was. Any information you have would be appreciated. Thanks!

Jim

Well, I finally found some info on pH probes. There is a pH probe out there for the visor that will store measurements and seems to be very full of features. Check it out at http://www.phmeters.com/IQ400_pH_Meter.htm if anyone is interested. I havn't been able to get a price yet, but I will update this when I have a chance.

Update: Well, I have to hand it to thier customer service people. I got a phone call about a half hour after posting an inquiry on thier website. The cost is (gulp) $599 US, and comes with a pH probe of your choice.

Couldn't they charge a little more for it?

There's no competition (that I know of). They can charge anything they want to for now. Not that anyone will buy it....

Is that bundle that they sell a VDX? I'm wondering because it shows a picture with a VDx, but the price of the bundle is 400 more than the mod itself. I though that bundles were supposed to cost less than the product separatly.

Well, no one said that there weren't still pirates out there. Yeah, when the rep called me back with the price, I just about dropped the phone. If you buy it all seperately you can get your VDX for 200, and then the module for 600, so you have a 200 dollar price difference there. Unfortunately there really isn't any competition. However, if you look at similar models of dedicated pH probes and meters that do all the same functions as this one does, it would cost you around 1000 bucks anyway. I just think they would get more takers if they lowered the price to say 300? It can't be that complicated since most of the computing hardware is in the visor already. The card is just a user interface. I am sure you could rig one up yoruself, but I am not an Elecrical engineer, so I leave that up to others.

I for one would like to have justification for a module of that cost! An itemized breakdown would be nice.. Sometimes a company will price a product out of the range of a "certain" market.. they are obviously targeting (large) companies and not home consumers / hobbyists where a $600 price is chicken feed. Too bad..
