-- Eyemodule 1 software upgrades? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11787)

Ok, I have an EM 1, and some have said that the EM 2 stores pics as JPEGS which use less room than the standard on the EM1. My question is:

Can Ideo make a patch for the EM1 that will allow us old custies to save our lower res color pics in a more memory-friendly way? This would add value to the EM1 and justify what is still a steep price even with a discount for a 320-240 res camera and prolong the shelf life a bit. Then I would be happy to buy a EM3 in say a year that has built -in storage for even $300 if it still had a small form factor. The EM2 @$200 is getting awfully close to a nice 1.3 megapixel Olympus for $300, which would be my choice if I upgrade right now. I have my EM1 for that unplanned photo already, the EM2 doesn't really fill the gap between a polaroid and an SLR in my opinion.

Please don't neglect your customer base, Ideo, or you may find it eroding away.

Unhappy EM/EM2 Compatibility

I'm not sure, but I'm doubtful a software patch can change the way images are stored by the original eyemodule. From what I understand, the fundamental technology in the sensor is different, right?

And an ideo wizard on our informal eyemodule user group list stated matter-of-factly that the new software, like eyedropper, would not work with the original eyemodule.

Not that I think third-party hacks/apps are out of the question. But both from the hardware specs and the website, it seems a pretty hard line is being drawn application-wise between the original eyemodule and E2.

eye1 jpegs

If you look at the eyemodule sdk, you can see that you can indeed make jpegs with software--ideo provides a jpeg encoding library for developers. (I think that's what eyeMail does.) But if you want to look at your picture, you have to decode it and format it to display on the screen, which takes a looooong time using the available processor speeds.
