Brian,
The default Palm Application info screen does not always show all of the files. You might have some additional databases that are affliated with a prc program file that won't show up because of separate names and the way the default handler works.
In order to see these you might need a different launcher. This will obviously take up more room. Also, another problem might be that you deleted files but didn't delete all related files and as such these may not show up in the Palm apps program either.
For the above reasons and others: I use Launch'em because it shows all files regardless. It is about 168K though. I'd suggest going after it at PalmGear, delete something that you can later reinstall easily then load Launchem and delete any of these "hidden" files then delete launch'em and reload. This might help free up your "unused" space.
Don't forget to clear your old email stuff out as well. Often times this gets lost in the sent or other folders and they are needlessly taking up space.
PalmGear has launchem as shareware which comes mostly functional as shareware so you'll be ok.
Otherwise consider a flash module to handle those other programs. This gives you 16mb of memory and if you need more then carry your laptop.

For a smaller application , you could try DBExplorer (22K) to view all files and see if there's something that can be deleted.
THanks
Thanks for your replies.
