James:

You mentioned something abotu a power jack on the first page fo your review...but you didn't say anything more about it. Could you elaborate on that please. Aare you saying that you can plug your mp3 module into a wall socker using an adapter?

I have read the spec's and know the sizes but i would still like to see a side on view and all i seem to find is a front or back view can you help?
But i will say that what i have seen does make it sound real good. It's price is better than the SoundGood and it has storage for other software and a place for more memory if it was just as small as SoundGood it would be perfect. Does anyone know how much the second 64meg of memory would cost?

from MiniJam review
Ok here's the bad news: you can't store non-MP3 files on the MiniJam's MMC -- yet. InnoGear, after taking a lot of heat about the MiniJam's delays, chose to release the MiniJam first and add the MMC file management feature later as a software update to the MiniJam.
So, did the rest of you hear my "WHAT?!?!?!?!!!" screamed across the globe??? This feature is my main reason for ordering the MJ anyway. James, did Innogear say when the update is supposed to come out? The module is almost useless to me without it... whenever I get it.

Don't worry Narnia, I'll be pestering them until that feature comes out.

Yardie: Yes, you can use an AC Adapter with the MiniJam. I don't have the specs for the one that InnoGear suggests, but I'll update the review with them later (Email me if it's not there by the weekend).

Question

quote:
In my testing, it took 1:54 to transfer a 4039KB file, for a transfer speed of 2.08MB/min when using MJLoader to transfer songs to the MiniJam. Deleting a track took only a few seconds. This is under Windows 98.

James, a question: I'm assuming you are using a USB cradle for doing this transfer?

Also, I notice with the SoundsGood MP3 module, they require a USB connection between the Visor and the PC. Is this true of the MiniJam? Even if you can use a serial cradle, is the transfer speed prohibitively slow?

Thanks for writing such a complete review! I am going to have a hard time choosing between the MiniJam and the SoundsGood module, I think.

I'm working on getting Desktop OS information. I was using USB. I know that the MiniJam works on the Mac and in Win98.

I'll update the review with what I find.

Wow. Sounds great. It seems they've released it *early* because some of the promising features are not done . Well anyway, it's 6 months plus overdue, and looks great! i waant one....

James does VC or you get to keep all these PR models?

don't worry, something simular happened when the Rio was introduced. after a couple of weeks some people wrote their own programs that could handle any file format...

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Question

James:

Can the minijam work (or have the potential to work) as a standalone? I know wthat the one from Good does.

Posted by BEN on 09-09-2000 09:00 PM:

Innogear said a long time ago that they would be releasing a battery pack unit (like the Good one). So, in the spirit of Innogear, expect it around christmas.

a question about the file storage on the miniJAM - Is the mimijams in ablity to store files a software issue or is there a hardware? If it is a software issue that I could upgrade to when an update comes out then I'll order mine the mineut that I get enought money but if it's a hardware isssue or a software issue that I can't get fixed with out replacing the unit then I won't bother with it untill they fix that.

thanks

Well, shoot me, but James has a great review of the battery pack and other acessories for the Visor. I'll find it soon.

Yes it is a software issue. On the MJ an update is needed, and on the desktop it only needs to allow other file types besides .mp3.

And Ben, the article is on the front page called "MiniJam's Mega-accessories." It's not a review, but an article about what's coming from InnoGear.

Thumbs down

Well I see from the posts hear that it has been well over a year now since Innogear said that the device would be able to store non mp3's "soon".

Looking at all the advertising third party sites about the product they all still imply that it can. This resulted in me paying AUS500 (about 250US) for a device that only does half of what I expected.

Way to bring a post out of the dead...

Unfortunately, this happens more than one would like. Go to the FlipCover thread and ask about the 'oversized' modules flip cover.
