-- Flimsy power button and brightness setting. (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11807)
I got a replacement Prism from Handspring, and now the unit has a flimsy power button that wiggles a little bit. The old unit I had had a solid power button that made a nice loud "click" when pressed. Does anybody have the same problem???
Also, what brightness setting do you Prism users use? Do you use the default setting from the factory? I set the brightness on my unit halfway, and I notice that the less the brightness, the more noticeable the flicker. Just an observation....
refurbished?
There has been earlier discussions that people who have gotten their PDA's replaced by HS have gotten refurbished systems. Chances are you may have gotten one as well judging by the flimsy power button. I would return it again.
Indications of being refurbished?
How can I tell if a unit is refurbished or not?
My best guess is all replacement units are "referbs".

Refurbished Prisms
I am on my third, soon to be fourth, Prism. I had returned them for peeling paing. They have willingly offered replacements. I have found through the boards that they are refurbished units. That has irked me greatly. Now the power light is not working. I called Handspring and they are sending out my fourth Prism. I told them I didn't want a refurbished unit and they said they could not guarantee it would be new. I said I paid full price for a new one, I have had two replacements and I expect a new replacement. I asked to speak to a manager. She put me on hold, came back and said they would send out a new one. My feeling is I paid for a new one, I expect a new one as a replacement. It is on its way
Alas in the first paragraph of the "Handspring, Inc. Limited Warranty" (one of the last pages of the Users Guide PDF file that installs with the Desktop) it states:
quote:Personally I think they should replace any device that fails within 90 days or so of the original purchase with a new device. Between the 90 days and a year, use the refurbished. However they seam to need better quality control on the refurbished units based off of the number of people here who have gone through multiple replacements.
Replacement products or parts may be new or reconditioned.
