Take it with a grain of salt. I talked to Paul and wanted to know when I could expect my confirmation email. I explained that I would like some proof that my order was entered. Paul replied that the confirmations should be sent by end of Next Week. And the units will be shipping by end of Next week as well.

Like I said, Take it with a grain of salt.

Well, FWIW I finally ordered my Visor today and got a response from the CSR I don't think I've seen here yet. She said if I ordered today I would get my Visor by the end of Oct and the conformation E-mail wouldn't go out until the thing was shipped. Which means I could spend three to four weeks wondering if my order is right only to find out after it's too late to do anything about it. I'm hoping for the best...

Just got a call from the folks at handspring and they did not get my e-mail address and wanted to get to send me my confirmation number. When I sounded a little amazed seeing how I placed my order about 2 hours after they started taking them on Tuesday. She explained that they were just doing a final check to make sure all the info has been compiled. My theory is this, they are not sending out any conformation numbers until the web site is updated. It will just make people mad to get a number and not be able to use it. She also confirmed the whole earlier you order the earlier you get the product thing would sounds good hope it works out that way. When I asked for a guess about when the ship date was and made absolute sure she understood that I would not try and hold her to it she gave me the prefab 4 to 6 weeks after I placed the order. Oh well I can hope for 4. The good news is they took my information accurately enough to get my phone number right hope everything else washes. I also believe that they would be fools to ship the product any earlier that a week after the get the online system up and running. It will probably take that long for us to change our orders around and confirm that all the info is correct.

Peace
Bryan

I ordered my Visor Deluxe two weeks ago and was told at that time it would be 5-7 business days before I received an e-mail confimation.

I just called the Handspring order center, to get an update. The rep. told me that "hopefully" I'd have an e-mail confirmation by the end of this week. He said that they were still trying to get caught up. I asked if their permament order system was in place and he of course said no.

Same here. Ordered 9/14; was told today (9/27) they hoped to email confirmations at the end of this week, and are "on schedule" to ship the second or third week of October.

Wink

So is this going to be a "Trick or Treat thing?"... Every post it seems the ship date and conformation date slip farther and farther... Gobble Gobble Gobble?.....

I say we start a poll and a betting pool on when Handsproing will actually start to ship product. Maybe that would get the message across to Ms Dubinsky and Mr Hawkins that we don't like being jerked around here. Is it that hard to broadcast a SIMPLE message consistently??? The silence is quite deafening HandSpring!

Well, I'd like to get my guess on record. . . I'll say they will ship the things on October 12th. . .

12th?...and I thought I was an optimist. I'm going to say the 18th.

18th?...I am tempted to say that is optimistic as well, but in the hopes of getting it sooner rather than later, I am going to say the week of the 18th it'll ship.

I agree with bhammons1, 4 weeks after Sep. 14, the 12th will be shipping day one.

O.K. - anyone have any guesses as to when the new web site will be up? (With Visor ordering, etc. . .)

Cool

My Guess for the new web site: Oct. 8th

Since I started it, here's my bet:

Shipping: October 15th
Website: One week before they ship, hence October 8th

Well, lets breakdown the "official statement" Handspring sent out last week which was posted by Sandy Torres and myself after receiving it from their press contact - Allen Bush :

>As a Handspring employee, I'd like to address some of the comments regarding
>Handspring's order taking processes. I also want to provide some background
>so customers will understand the decisions we went through in electing to
>move the date customers could place orders closer to October.

Okay, fairly simple intro and not to much to critique. On to the next paragraph...

>We launched our product 9.14.99. We originally had every intention to sell
>products directly on the web and over the phone the day we announced the

Okay, the problem I have here is the "intention" and then the lack of follow through. Anybody else have that thought?

>product. As we moved closer towards launch, we decided to hold off on
>taking orders until we could verify that our order processing infrastructure
>was ready to handle the incoming volume. Instead of a full e-Commerce site,

Shouldn't this "system" have been checked out and ready before the launch? I know they are getting a large amount of orders but jeez, its not like the site is going to be hit like eBay does on a daily basis. There are an estimated 4 million Palms that have been sold, did they think they were going to out do that in one day? I think the "system" was never planned and the whole launch wasn't very coordinated.

>we launched an informational site with the ability for customers to sign up
>for our e-Newsletter to be notified once we opened our doors for
>order-taking. However, after the product announcement, we had a significant
>number of customers that wanted to reserve an order before we started
>shipping. We elected to manually take these reservations and then move
>those reservations into our order processing system, which will send the
>confirmation emails.

Okay, this sounds a bit more truthful. They announced their product, then we the customer started beating their doors down asking for it so they decided to do the best they could. No "system" was in place and they didn't want to disappoint anyone or loose any sales so they decided to wing it. It all sounds like they had no idea that it would take off like this. Hard to believe...

>As we work hard to bring the automated order processing system to full
>operation, we appreciate your patience and your overwhelming enthusiasm for
>the product. Until that time, please be assured:

>All personal information captured by Handspring will be kept in a heavily
>secured environment.
>All customers who have placed orders will be input into our system in the
>order they are received.
>All customers who have placed orders will receive an email confirmation when
>they are entered into our e-Commerce system.
>We are hopeful email confirmations will be sent out within the next couple
>of weeks!

Okay...this is great! But, a week or so to late in my opinion. When they decided all this they should have informed people who called and ordered of this sort of information. or posted on their website.

>We regret any inconvenience or concern our decision on order taking may have
>caused. Please be assured that all decisions were made keeping the best
>interest of our customers in mind. Please don't hesitate to contact us at
>1.888.565.9393, day or night if you have any questions."

Okay, I do have to give them credit for responding to peoples emails and phone calls. Their info differs from time to time a little but most of the people here who have said they called or emailed got some sort of prompt reply.

Anyone else have any thoughts about this "official statement"...

9/29 Spoke to David. Said shipping in mid-October, and that email would be sent out 2-3 days prior to shipping. Said that all other information was "wrong". Handspring Number in CA is 650-230-5000. I am contacting a friend that said !!! He got a email. I will post content if he will forward me a copy.

I called Handspring today (the number that is on the website). They said email confirmations should be 2-3 weeks after order was placed and that if I don't get an email after 2-3 weeks, call their "Customer Care Number" (716.871.6442). I called Customer Care and they said that they have just given all the order information to their data entry people and they are now just entering the information into the system.

Question

Well, i'm a little reluctant to believe that they really got the info to the data entry people. It may be true, and I hope it is, but with all the other info that has been wrong, I would be surprised is this is either.

So, now, lets just assume that they really are entering the info in, when do you think the e-mails will be going out? I would think that we should be getting them in the next day, or two at most. I guess i'll have to check my e-mail every half-hour .

I've been thinking about how many people have order visors, how many do you think have? I think that it would be several thousand. My guess is 5,000. I have no idea how acurate that is, what does everyone else think? I'm kind of curious as to what people think, maybe we can get an acurate estimate. Thats all I wanted to say.

The over/under on the ship date: October 20.
For the updated web site: October 25.
Just one cynic's opinion.
