I would like to run bigclock when giving talks. The visor has a maximum of 3 minutes before it shuts down. How do I get around the automatic shutdown feature?

Hi acocka:

You can use a shortcut dot command to achieve this. In the number graffiti area, write a shortcut stroke (a cursive lower-case letter L), followed by a dot (ie. a double-tap), followed by the number 3. If you do this while in datebook or memo, you'll see each character as it is formed, and then you'll see displayed: [No auto-off].

This command does what it says, so remember to manually shutdown your unit when not in use, otherwise the batteries will drain till they (and the memory) are dead! To revert back to the auto-off condition: goto the Prefs icon/app, and select General from the drop-down menu from the top right corner. Then select the appropriate auto-off interval.

Just a caution: be *very* careful not to perform a shortcut dot 1, 2, or *especially* 5, because they will mess up your unit. You can still recover from the first two by doing a soft reset with a paperclip, but the last one requires a hard reset! So, be careful...Hope this helps, though.

I believe I also saw a "hack" on one of the software sites that would disable the "auto shutdown".

You can also get the free utility program ATool, which among other things lets you set the auto-off to as high as 480 minutes (8hrs). That should be enough time

just out of curiosity, how did you find out about the 'shortcut/dot/3 or 1 or 2 or 5' stuff?

is there a 'palm OS' unknown options list published somewhere (like the one for Windows95?)???

I get quite a lot of info and share/freewares from Palmgear, a site that I visit almost daily... You can check out the shortcut dot commands there at: http://www.palmgear.com/faq/faq.cfm...=61&catID=3

However, after checking out Atool 0.9 as suggested by JHrodmadka, it is much easier AND safer to use that utility than shorcut dot 3.
