-- Flash module is killing my Deluxe! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10674)
I just bought the 8 MB module. When I run the file mover program, at some point, it will freeze the deluxe and I have to do a soft reset.
It does this with all the hacks disabled, so I can't figure out what the conflict is.
Thanks,
Pamela
Check the version of the flash module
I know there was a conflict with the version 1.0 of the flash module, now the Handspring has an upgrade to the v1.1 maybe that's the problem.

The springboard module is labelled version 1.2. I tried copying things instead of moving things. Didn't work.
At this point, I'm going to just delete stuff of the Visor so I have room to load the stuff I want on the module. Then I'll reload the visor.
When I try to move documents, I get a warning that it may cause the associated program to crash. I've been careful to put things on the module that I don't plan on editing.
Anyone have any words of wisdom?
TIA

When I first got my Flash mod and ran Filemover it would scroll very slowly and 'jerkily' and eventually hang requiring a soft reset. I'm pretty sure (it was a while ago) I determined the problem was either QuickBits or Trapweaver (or maybe both). As soon as I removed it (them) I could scroll through Filemover quickly and smoothly - and no more crashes.
Oooooooooooo...I can't wait to try my module without Trap Weaver. It's definitely hanging up if I have to scroll. Without significant scrolling I was able to manuever 12 times before resetting. With major scrolling, it freezes on the third or fourth time.
Thanks!

Just for comparison, I have version 1.2 on a Platinum. No problems at all with file mover, no problems with scrolling, everything is working fine. I've only removed the module once, and that caused a soft reset, although I'm beginning just to accept that.

Best Practices for removing modules
I've got a Prism with V1.2 of the 8MB flash module and Quickbits and TrapWeaver (v1.08b1)and haven't had any problems. I had the 8MB in a Deluxe for about 6 weeks before Christmas without any trouble, although I was only running Quickbits (I hadn't learned about TrapWeaver yet).
Elsewhere in these fori, the following "Best Practices" for removing modules were listed. I used to soft reset both devices on extracting the 8MB (exp. the Prism) until I started following them. [These are probably edited by me as I placed them in a Memo Pad entry]
The "best practice" for removing a Springboard module is the following:
1.Stop what you're doing. Disconnect if you're online, stop any music playing, etc. If a module can be "powered down" like the Minstrel S or MiniJam, do so.
2.Run another application. Press the Calendar button or one of the other hardware buttons to make another application appear.
3.Remove the module
Various hacks and overclocking
software can also give modules fits.
