Question Hot Synch Windows XP

I recently purchased a new computer (Dell) with Windows XP. I have been trying to hot synch my VDX with no success.
I did download the Handspring Desktop software 4.0.1 as suggested on the handspring website and that has not seemed to work.

When I press the hot synch button on the USB cradle I get a message on the computer that says that the computer has detected a malfunctioning USB device or something like that.

I have also tried inserting the cradle into each of the three or four various USB ports, still no success.

If anybody has any suggestion or ideas, I would be grateful for your help.
Thanks in advance.

Also have a Dell (Inspiron 8100) and it was very fussy.

If at any time the computer asks you for drivers (when hotsyncing maybe), tell it to search for them in Program Files/Handspring/Drivers.

If it is not asking you for driverswhen you hotsync, you will have to go into the Device Manager and tell it you want to update the drivers for the Visor and point it in the folder above.

Make sure you keep the cradle plugged into the same USB port or it will force you to find the drivers again.

At least on my computer, XP seems to be very stupid about drivers.

If you need any help, just post again. Don't let Handspring try to make you pay for technical support unless you are really desperate.

cml-

Thanks for the tips but I think I figured out my problem. Oddly enough, I think that the visor does not sit well in the cradle. I need to hold down the visor in the cradle and then the hotsynch works.

I wonder if this is a problem that is unique to me.

If the problem is the cradle I would consider buying a new one (maybe in ebay) but if the problem is the handheld I am out of luck as it is well beyond its warrantee.

Thanks again for your help.

perhaps try a hotsync cable? haven't had that problem. Half the time I use the infrared sync on my laptop because I am away from my desk (where the cradle is).

Good luck Visoring!
