-- Help - USB HotSync quit! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2477)

Question

After two weeks of troublefree USB HotSyncs, my Visor suddenly decided to stop syncing. I can still sync with the serial cradle without problem, but the USB cradle will not "connect" with my laptop. I have checked HotSync manager and both USB and serial are checked. I have disconnected the USB cradle from the laptop and re-connected, rebooted multiple times, etc.

Any suggestions? TIA for the help.

Red face

Same here, I had no problems hotsyncing till yesterday. It suddenly just quit. I am planning to reinstall the Palm Desktop and hope it works...

This was posted on another thread and works like a charm for most people...

1. Soft reset your Visor.
2. Open REGEDIT in Windows 98. (Be careful if you are new to Windows registries. Be sure to make backups)
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\USB\
4. Delete the entry: VID_082D&PID_0100.
5. Close REGEDIT.
6. Make sure Local USB is checked in your Hotsync Manager.
7. Perform Hotsync.

I have a similar problem. My serial cradle quit Sync'ing after only about 3 weeks. HS said they'll send me a new one in approx 10 days. I agree the timing sucks as does the problem. Curiously I do still get some input from the cradle on my terminal emulator Zterm (I use a mac), which makes me think that the cradle has at least some functionality to it. Did you get anything coming across the term emulator when you did this?

Any register editing ideas for us mac-folks?

I experience the same problem following a failed sync with AvantGo (timeout, etc). A soft reset cures it. I don't need to edit the W98 registry however.

Let me chime in....DO NOT EDIT THE REGISTRY AUTOMATICALLY. This is tricky and the instructions to do so here are not nearly detailed enough.

The vast majority of people will have no problem if they just do a soft reset. I have found that rebooting the desktop helps too. If that doesn't work, it is possible there are other conflicts with other USB devices. It may still not be a registry issue, but at that point, I'd suggest calling Handspring tech support and getting them to walk you through it, unless you're really, really sure.

Unhappy

I can't HotSync with AvantGo, TopSecret or (it seems) any other app installed that installs its own conduit. Basically, AvantGo will get to the channel update dialogue during HotSync, and then the PC crashes -- either freezes, or just reboots automatically.

I've reinstalled Palm Desktop, performed a hard & soft reset on the Visor, and this doesn't help. I remove VID_082D.. from the registry, and it's then fine, though this appears again when I reboot. I also tried removing the Intel PCI to USB Controller from the device manager, but it also reappears when I reboot and HotSync.

Anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? I've spoken to Handspring support, who talked me through the above, but after 40 mins on the phone from Scotland -- and still with VID_082D.. reappearing at every HotSync -- decided to call it a day.

Lightbulb

If you haven't done so already, try disabling all Hacks and DAs before syncing.
