Eudora Mail "stuck"

OK, right up front: I did something stupid, and now I need help fixing it.

I deleted an e-mail message in Eudora Mail ... and before I synced, I also deleted it in Outlook. Now, whenever I synchronize, the log tells me:

Could not delete the following message from the Desktop Mail system:
whatever, x/xx/2001, stuck

Eudora's FAQ and knowledge base don't address this, and because it's freeware, they don't offer phone or e-mail support.

Anyone have any ideas how to "un-stuck" it? Even if your ideas are just "try the e-mail program I'm using," I'm open to it. I need to be able to access my e-mail wirelessly, and with this problem, I'm "stuck" syncing my standard Palm e-mail program and using Eudora for wireless.

In the Eudora Mail Conduit is a setting "Deletion of mail on Palm Eudora causes deletion on desktop". Try unchecking it and then sync. If it works without the error message, re-enable it and try again.

MarkEagle, thanks for your quick reply.

I misunderstood what you meant, and instead of changing the setting in the Eudora conduit, changed it in Eudora Mail on my Visor. I then synced, and it "stuck" again.

So I went to the conduit, and the checkbox was already unchecked. So ... I was thinking (dangerous, I know), what if it changed the setting during the sync process? So I decided to try syncing again with the box unchecked in the conduit.

Still didn't work.

I'm thinking I'm going to have to delete and reinstall Eudora Mail. Any suggestions short of that? Or suggestions of another wireless e-mail client? Eudora Mail is free, but it takes a lot of space, and takes forever to sync.

Maybe this will work... is the deleted mail still in the Trash folder in Eudora? If it is, try moving it to the Inbox by opening it, tapping the menu icon, select Message, File in Mailbox, and selecting Inbox. If the message has already been permanently deleted, maybe deleting and re-installing Eudora will help.

As for other email clients, the only one I've tried was MultiMail (came bundled with my Thinmodem). I never tried the conduit, however, so I don't know how it compares to Eudora.

I also found this FAQ at Eudora's site. Try the third option of deleting the eismlog.txt file from the desktop to see if that helps.

It's not still in the trash box, and deleting the eismlog.txt file didn't help.

Guess when it says stuck, it means stuck!

Well, I guess I'm off to the software discussion to check for e-mail software.

I had this same problem and this is the way I fixed it...

Go to the conduit in the hot synch manager and check the backup box. That opens up some more choices, check desktop overrides device (or whatever the terminology...this is from memory). Overwriting makes the records consistent and then you can go back to synch mode after that.

Thanks ... that probably would have done the trick ... but I ended up just deleting and uninstalling, then reinstalling.

Everything works fine now. I sure will try to never make that mistake again!
