-- Wierd reset lockup, then batteries drain (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10504)
Reading the posts here about battery drain got me to thinking that maybe there's someone else out there with this wierd little problem and perhaps if nothing else, we can comfort each other<g>.
I've got a VDx with the DRAM issue (its only loaded to 4-5Mb or so and I have the 'workaround' installed). Every so often when the battery goes low, I get an error (usually thrown whilst in Datebk 4) that results in a reset. However, when the reset pin is pressed (the onscreen reset button is dead), the Visor refuses to get past the Palm logo screen - it just keeps flashing it at me. I have to remove the batteries for more than 2mins, then when I put them back in we can go again. Thank heavens for backup modules, although its a bit of a pain if I've not backed up on that particular day!!
Now for the really wierd bit. When I put fresh batteries (Duracells) in after a reset episode, they die within about a day. If I put cheap cells in, they're fine.
This all happened again over the holidays (5th or 6th time now since I got my VDx last June) and it strikes at random - sometimes I go a month without a problem, other times all hell breaks loose.
I've no hacks installed and really only use Datebk4, Avantgo & SmartDoc on a regular basis. I rang Handspring Europe last summer (prior to the DRAM workaround becoming available) about the reset issue and they logged it. Could this all be due to the supposed extra drain the workaround causes? I usually get about 3 weeks to a months life out of a set of cells (non rechargable).
