-- Have you broken a visor? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10226)

Question

I ordered my Visor on the very first day possible. This means I have had mine for a little over one year. In the span of that one year, I have broken 4 LCDs. One of those breaks, I consider legitimate. The other three have been from a short 2 foot drop, a little extra flex of the unit, and one mysterious crash. Has anyone had any similar experiences with the lack of rigidty in the case or the weakness of the LCD. I am tired of paying $85 for a new Visor everytime I break one. At this point, I am thinking of buying a Palm.

Rigity in the case would actually make it easier to break the screen. You want some give in the case to take the blow away from the glass.

I broke one visor. Dropped about 3 feet onto concrete. What can you do? It's glass.

The best advice? GET A GOOD CASE! Let the case take the beatings.

i broke mine a few months ago. I have no idea how it happened. when i opened up my backpack there was a big line running through the center of it. they sent me a new one for free because i also mentioned when i called them up that the case was cracking. they might send new ones for free if the case had been cracking.

Except Palm charges (or at least used to as of a couple of months ago) $100. And from my experience they're just as fragile as the visor. homer was right about the case. Check out the Vaja case at www.directcase.com.

I broke my visor once, and that's because I was playing with it and trying to clean it out. . . really really really bad idea. . . anyway, I bought a Handglove neoprene case for a palm III and it's a great fit, and I've dropped my visor from 4 feet on to tile and it bounces in the case with no damage, it's a perfect case when you have someplace else to store the modules.

Hey jslacker -- I too am a "long-time Visor owner" (read: more than a full year) but I've yet to break my screen, even once. For me, it means always having it in a carrying case. Right now I'm using the neoprene sports case from Handspring, and it seems to provide quite a bit of cushion.

Cool

I ordered my Visor about the first week they were available, but many people still got theirs before I did.

As I read VisorCentral, I soon became paranoid about the fragility of the screen. My first accessory was a Rhodiana padded case.

A year and a few months, and two Visors later I am happy to report that I haven't broken a screen once (knock on wood...)

A little paranoia makes all the difference...

My Visor Dx is 13 months old. Now, I don't think ANYONE's going to believe this, but I have dropped it twice onto my garage floor (it slipped from my breast pocket when I leaned over to put my shoes on.) That "tupperware top" a lot of us hate? It took all the beating! It's crescent-shaped edge is what hits the floor, it springs and bounces off. No problems with the Visor. Ever. (Although, one time it slipped out -- you'd think I'd learn -- it fell DIRECTLY on the stylus, which I COULD NOT REMOVE without destroying the stylus. Visor: Ok.

Lightbulb

Mine slipped out of the "slipper case" about four feet down onto concrete. The clip part of the clip on cover of mine also took the full brunt and broke off! But, my visor was perfectly fine. Makes me glad I religously use my clip on and slipper case.

Post broken visor

I knocked my Visor off my bedside table (about 2.5')one morning while turning off my alarm clock. It was not in it's case, and the fall badly cracked my screen. I had to get a new Visor. Luckily this was about a year ago when they were not charging for replacements. My fault for not using the case.

Smile

I dropped my visor onto concrete while syncing it to my mobile phone. I was standing outside a shop while the gf was shopping and decided to check my email. Just as the server connected the visor slipped from my hand and fell 3 ft onto the concrete, it had now cover or case on.
After reading previous messages like above, I feared the worst, but to my surprise the visor was fine it was still on.
I was well pleased. Although the gf did call me an idiot when I told her about my good luck.
