ok shure greens a fine color but why in gods name would i want GREEN! Ohh wait i meen why a green background on my visor? Its stupid, the old computers hade green backgrounds and they were ulgy as hell. I don't think even the Newton Had a green background! I Know the Helio from www.myhelio.com doesn't have a green background. So why doesn't THe Visor have a white one?

I'm not sure I understand. Was this a revelation to you, did you purchase this thing sight unseen (like without checking out pictures on the web)? Why the green and black LCD and not white and black? Well, cause that would require a different screen, actually a color LCD with the backlight constantly on (given the current technology). Which translates into a much higher cost if you've been keeping up with the recent shortages in the color LCD market. (Not to mention the battery drain that such a screen would cause with the constant backlight).

If it bugs you that much then maybe you should have purchased something else--I'm assuming you have--or wait until Handspring moves on (like Palm will) to more sophisticated screens.

BTW, any "black & white" or mono LCD on a PDA tends to have a silver/grey/or green/yellow background. It helps relfect less light with better visibility. And the Helio and the Newton both happen to have greenish backgrounds, if you've seen them up close. The picture you display of the Helio isn't close-enough up to tell but if you delve further into the site, you'll find better images.

Yes it does, i thought that it was stupid they had a green background, i read About the Alto that had B&W monitors and so did the old TV thank

Monitors and TV's are both CRT's, and I don't suppose anyone wants to lug around a 20+ lb. screen with their visor to eliminate the green backlight.

This is like asking why is Indiglo green?

Well excuuuse Me! i knew they were different technolgies but the first computer screens were GREEN so i figured it must be the same problem! So poo on you!

They were green because they just coated the screens with a coating that glowed green instead of white or black when hit with electrons.
